Job Description

Job Title: CTE Career Development Special Populations Coordinator

Reports to: CTE Director & Principal

FLSA Status: Fulltime Exempt

Months of Employment: 10 Months

Salary: NC State Salary Schedule

Qualifications:

Required Degree Level: Bachelors or Masters

Examples of Related Work Experience: Career and Technical Education program area teacher in industryrelated career development work experience in business industry or labor; or as a coordinator of workbased learning (jobshadowing internships cooperative education apprenticeships); or in school counseling

Course Options:

Option 1: One required course:

  • NCDPI Facilitating Career Development (FCD) Course

Option 2: Two required courses:

  • NC Works Training Center Facilitating Career Development (FCD) Course
  • NC DPI New CDC Induction

Option 3: Six semester hours and Induction

  • 3 semester hours in Counseling theory
  • 3 semester hours from the following: NC DPI New CDC Induction

Required Credentials: Current Continuing Professional License in a CTE program area and/or Current Continuing Professional license as School Counselor at the G level

AND

Special Populations Licensure Requirements:

Required Degree Level: Bachelors or Masters

Required Years of Work Experience: 1 year within the past 5 years

Examples of Related Work Experience: Career and Technical Education program area teacher administrator of special education special education teacher school psychologist curriculum director career development coordinator school counselor reading specialist school administrator speech and language pathologist English Language instructor (teaching English as a second language) social worker.

Required Course(s) Options:

Option 1: One course

  • NC DPI Special Populations Course

Option 2: 6 Semester Hours and Induction

  • 3 semester hours in Instructional Methods/Teaching Strategies of Special Needs Students OR Diversity OR Psychology
  • 3 semester hours in Classroom Assessment and Evaluation OR Exceptionalities; Principles of Career Counseling and Development OR Theories and Techniques of Counseling
  • NC DPI SPC Induction

Required Credentials: Current Continuing Professional License in a CTE program area and/or current Continuing Professional License in Exceptional Childrens Education and/or Current Continuing Professional license as School Counselor at the G level

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate leadership advocacy and collaboration
  • Oversee and assist with relevant record keeping and inventory systems related to job responsibilities
  • Enhance the profession and strive to improve it by staying current in research and best practices
  • Advocate for programs and Assist school and CTE administrators in identifying programs that need improvements to assist special populations students in meeting the performance indicators
  • Coordinate with school and CTE administrators and other service providers to develop an annual plan of work based on the evaluation and needs assessment results to ensure that students within special populations are receiving adequate supplementary services and career planning
  • Demonstrate high ethical standards and behavior
  • Assist and help to coordinate all CTE related testing by serving as the Building Level Coordinator within their school (ex. CTE Post assessments Workkeys Credentials and Certifications)

  1. Promote a respectful environment for a diverse population of students
    • Foster a school environment in which students have positive nurturing relationships with caring adults
    • Assist in identifying students within specific educational needs each semester and provide information to CTE teachers and suggest possible teaching strategies to help students become career and college ready
    • Assess the characteristics of using interest inventories learning style assessments or similar instruments
    • With input from CTE teachers and CTE administrators assist in developing implementing and monitoring the CDP
    • Participate on the IEP Team for students enrolled in CTE courses as needed in the development and implementation of the TE and transition components of the IEP
    • Adapt services to accommodate diverse student populations
    • Work collaboratively with the families and significant adults in the lives of students
    • Identify students within special populations each semester and provide information to CTE teachers and suggest possible teaching strategies
    • Oversee and assist with coordinating special services for special populations students
    • Assist with transition services for special populations students
    • Monitor school course demographic and attainment data to assist in determining maintenance and improvement of access progress and success of students within special populations in CTE programs
    • Assist in assessing the attainment of performance indicators for students within special populations
  2. Understand and facilitate the implementation of a comprehensive career development program
    • Align programs to support student success in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study
    • Understand how professional knowledge and skills support and enhance student success
    • Recognize the interconnectedness of the comprehensive education program and academic content areas/disciplines
    • Develop comprehensive career development programs relevant to students
  3. Promote learning for all students
    • Know how students Understand the teaching and learning process and the impact on students
    • Help students develop employability Assist all students with developing academic career and personal/social skills
    • Use and promote effective listening and communication skills
    • Provide information about CTE opportunities to students and their parents
    • Coordinate with guidance CTE teachers and CTE administrators to promote recruitment enrollment and placement activities for CTE students
  4. Actively reflect on the practice
    • Analyze the impact of the career development program
    • Link professional growth to the needs of their school and their program goals
    • Function effectively in a complex dynamic environment
    • Network with other career development coordinators in LEA region and state
  5. Coordination with other service providers
    • Oversee and assist with collaborating with CTE teachers and other relevant service providers in providing services to special population students
    • Oversee and assist coordinating with data managers IMC special education vocational rehabilitation community agencies businesses/industry and others to provide supplementary services to members of special populations
    • Facilitate inservice training for school personnel working with students within special populations to improve their abilities and techniques in meeting the special needs of these students
    • Monitor the CTE Component of the IEP and CDP to ensure that appropriate supplementary services are provided and performance indicators are met
  6. Complete any additional duties and responsibilities as required or assigned by the Director.

Physical and Cognitive Requirements:

The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to this job classification within Person County Schools.

Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
