Ascension Catholic Academy is a consortium of Catholic schools located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. The Academy is committed to providing academic excellence to diverse neighborhoods and welcoming families as beloved children of God. As a ministry of Church of the Ascension we ensure excellence accessibility and sustainability for our four schools: Ascension Catholic School St. John Paul II Catholic School St. Pascal Regional Catholic School and St. Peter Claver Catholic School. Each school has an Early Childhood Learning Center on site.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an Assistant Preschool Teacher to join our preschool team at Ascension Catholic School. Under the supervision of the Lead Preschool Teacher and the Director of Early Childhood Learning the Assistant Preschool Teacher will assist with daytoday tasks such as preparing lessons supporting students during activities and maintaining a safe and organized classroom environment. The ideal candidate will be pursuing a degree in early childhood education or a related field and have a passion for working with young children. This is position requires a commitment to creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment that reflects the values of Catholic education.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Lead Preschool Teacher with preparing and implementing ageappropriate lessons and activities
  • Support students during lessons small group activities and playtime to promote their development
  • Maintain a safe organized and engaging classroom environment
    Communicate effectively with the Lead Preschool Teacher other staff members and families
  • Use active listening and problemsolving skills to support the needs of students
  • Learn technology skills as required by the position
  • Perform other jobrelated tasks as deemed necessary and/or assigned by the Lead Preschool Teacher or Principal

Starting Pay: $18 per hour

StartingPayis determined by the candidates experience and education level

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in an early childhood education or related degree program
  • Experience working with young children either through volunteer work or paid employment
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and engage with families
  • Develop and maintain a positive atmosphere with colleagues
  • Knowledge of prekindergarten educational practices and techniques
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn technology skills as required by the position
  • Patience empathy and a passion for working with young children
  • Active listening and problemsolving skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work a fulltime schedule of 40 hours per week including attendance at required school events (graduation holiday programs and other activities as determined by administration)
  • Sustained mobility to move throughout classroom and school environments for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform physical tasks required in an educational setting
  • Full sensory capabilities including ability to speak clearly see hear and respond effectively to students staff and administrators at all times
  • Ability to fulfill all commitments of the educational program throughout the school year
