Job Description

Career Center Coordinator

Location: Sherwood High School

Hours per day: 7.5 hrs/day

Start date: Flexible

PERSeligible

Reports to: Building Administrator(s)

PURPOSE

Work with Career Center Director and school counselors in planning and implementing the district college and career program and maintains primary responsibility for the college and career development component of the program; is responsible for planning developing and implementing a comprehensive high school college and career development program which is designed to assist students parents staff and the business community to extend the academic world to the world or work; evaluate activities and services associated with the high school college and career development program; exercise considerable independent thinking judgment problemsolving and decisionmaking within a framework of established procedures; must be detailed oriented able to multitask and collaborate with coworkers.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from assigned professional or supervisory staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Sufficient college training or experience in vocational research or counseling to provide accurate effective career guidance to students
  • Computer skills necessary to write reports and assist students with online course work and career research
  • Knowledge of resource material for vocational selection guidance and continuing education programs and support programs
  • Effective public speaking skills
  • Ability to use or learn to use School Links and other college application and resource management platforms.
  • Ability to recruit encourage and promote school business and government participation
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written communication
  • Considerable organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to coordinate a variety of data and information
  • Ability to maintain effective and positive relations with students fellow employees and the general public
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with students parents and school personnel

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans and coordinates the career development program in collaboration with Career Center Director Counseling and other school staff as assigned.
  • Coordinates activities between the school and the business and government community; recruits business and government participation; acts as a liaison between all parties.
  • Solicits trains and coordinates activities of volunteers involved in career development and postsecondary education
  • Builds relationships with representatives from colleges and Military and schedules and hosts representative presentations to students
  • Provides students and parents with career and college information and guides students regarding goals after high school including the availability of financial aid apprenticeship programs scholarships and career selection processes
  • Provides students and parents with FAFSA support including proactive communication about application deadlines and requirements tracking successful submission and providing support and guidance to resolve submission errors and navigate unusual circumstances.
  • Arranges and supervises students on occupational or career field trips
  • Publicizes local job openings
  • Trains and supervises student assistants in clerical support and to assist other students
  • Coordinates administration of ASVAB and provides direction in the use of the assessment results
  • Organizes and coordinates college and career events
  • Serves as the College and Career Website liaison and ensures the college facing school profile is up to date and posted. (School Links)
  • Meets with Seniors to clarify and correct their colleges application lists
  • Sends all senior documents to nonCommon App colleges via School Links or email

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Sherwood School District 88J and Oregon School Employees Association Chapter #103.
