The Ambulatory New Grad Float Pool is designed to train newly graduated MAs in primary health and specialty health practices thus allowing exposure to multiple areas within the ambulatory setting before committing to a permanent position in one office. The first 2 months 320 hours) of training will occur within the primary health setting with a validated preceptor. Recommendation for the MA to spend several weeks on specialty assignment(s) of interest.
Department Expectations
Scheduled hours/ FTE consistent with offer.
This position does require travel to various sites around West Michigan.
Mileage Reimbursement is paid when locations meet requirements.
Team members will be in the float pool until successful completion of required training and competencies but not exceeding 14 months.
If the team member does not secure a position by the end of the 14month period the MA will have the opportunity to transfer into Ambulatory Resource Center or Float Pool.
Provides clinical support to health care professionals to ensure the delivery of quality health care services.
Position Details
Rooming patients (obtaining vitals chief complaint and taking medical histories medication reconciliation)
Preparing patients for exam and/ or assisting physician during exam
Point of Care (POC) testing electrocardiograms (ECGs) wound care
Updating patient electronic medical record (Epic)
Clean & stock rooms
Answering phones and creating patient encounters
Prescription medication refills and other clinical administrative work (chart prep Epic Inbasket management)
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent Required
Successful completion of a competencybased orientation program Required
New graduate MA with less than 60 days of employment as an MA Required (Clinical/Externship time does not count toward 60 days)
1 year of relevant experience working in a physician practice or healthcare setting Preferred
One of the following Required within 120 Days
AAMA Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
AMT Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
NHA Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA)
NCCT Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
NAHP Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA)
AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Required within 120 Days
