The Assistant Coordinator of Residential Living works in our residential cottages to provide supervision organization and administrative coverage to a residence for multiply impaired blind deaf and deafblind students. The ACRL assists in the coordination of the administrative and operational aspects of student residential life including supervision and training of residential staff as well as attend to the direct care medical and behavioral needs of students in the residence.
Essential Duties Responsibilities and Expectations include the following:
Assesses program needs and plans accordingly.
Maintains appropriate certifications and completes required training hours and mandated trainings including onthejob training.
Demonstrates an understanding of the general curriculum as well as the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC).
Prioritizes and manages several responsibilities concurrently and provides supervisory leadership to enable staff to perform well
Produces clear wellwritten reports in proper formats and submits reports/IEP on time and oversees completion of all staff and student related documents.
Maintains effective communication and works cooperatively with coordinators and administrators.
Acts as liaison with education work placement health services clinical and residential staff.
Assists supervisor in monitoring supply ordering and ensures compliance with safe food handling and nutritional requirements
Manages staff and students demonstrating good judgment and effective performance management skills.
Oversees the implementation of residence safety security and emergency procedures.
Administers medications in compliance with Perkins policies and state regulations.
Oversees the implementation of residence safety security and emergency procedures.
Provides two eighthour asleep overnight shifts and responds to emergencies during overnight coverage.
Reports staff and client injuries and client incidents per policy and procedures
Assists the coordinator in staff development including onthejob training.
Participates in residential staff interviewing and hiring.
Utilizes administrative resources to manage the residential staff growth and performance.
Assists in the development and implementation of IEP goals objectives and strategies for students and provide instruction and direct care.
Creates a positive homelike learning environment that is safe secure and clean
Promotes student independence selfconfidence and the development of social organizational and other critical skills to the maximum extent possible.
To complete other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
Associates degree
Two 2 years of experience working with children and adolescents
At least one year of supervisory experience
Ability to complete and maintain First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Crisis Prevention and Physical Intervention (CPPI) certifications
Preference may be given to candidates with:
Bachelors degree
Sign Language (dependent on program needs)
Valid drivers license and willingness to drive school vehicles including chair cars
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Generally the essential functions performed are typical in a school environment and involves work with special needs students requiring lifting or exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally. Typically essential functions routinely require stooping kneeling crouching and crawling. Workers are required to ascend and descend stairs walk bend reach and handle objects travel independently and use hands to operate tools and equipment specific to the discipline computer and keyboard. Work requires expression or exchange of ideas and the ability to receive detailed information. Work requires ability to compare compile analyze and coordinate data and information; ability to instruct or train others; and ability to utilize effective interpersonal skills and behaviors. The work conditions here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job in a school classroom residence or facility environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
