Job Description

Description

As a Manufacturing Process Automation Engineer for Electric Vehicle (EV) Manufacturing Systems your role will be to lead the development of the processes tooling equipment and manufacturing engineering standards that will be focused on the New Manufacturing Technology Development efforts spanning across the EV Core Manufacturing Commodity Areas including:

  1. Powertrain Propulsion Manufacturing Systems
    1. eDrive Assembly Systems eMotor Rotor / eMotor Stator / Power Unit
    2. Battery Assembly Systems Battery Tray / Battery Array & Cell / Battery Pack
  2. Vehicle Manufacturing Systems
    1. Chassis Assembly
    2. Body Assembly
    3. Final Assembly

These EV Manufacturing Systems and their associated highly integrated Powertrain Propulsion Manufacturing Systems and Vehicle Manufacturing Systems will be direct enablers for delivery of the entire Electric Vehicle (EV) Product Portfolio (BEV/PHEV/FHEV).

In addition the new manufacturing technology and innovations that are developed for each of these EV Manufacturing Core Commodity Areas will also be used extensively within the EV manufacturing facilities that are being deployed globally at Ford Powertrain Operation (PTO) and Vehicle Operation (VO) sites.



Responsibilities

What youll do

  • Collaborate with key Product Design (PD) and Global Manufacturing Engineering (GME) stakeholders to identify define and prioritize manufacturing technology development initiatives aligned to global manufacturing objectives:
    • Establish and cascade the Manufacturing Technology Development Roadmaps for the EV Manufacturing Core Commodity Areas
    • Benchmark best practices and processes (internal/external) follow industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Drive the manufacturing technology development and establish the technical core competency base within the organization for EV Manufacturing Core Commodity Areas.
  • Lead internal Ford and external Supplier cross functional teams to develop and deliver the new manufacturing technologies through ideation concept generation design build and testing of prototype tooling and equipment:
    • Adhere to the organizations established and disciplined manufacturing technology development procedure in the and delivery of these new manufacturing technologies into the global manufacturing facilities.
    • Apply a system engineering approach with Six Sigma methodology and data driven mindset on all manufacturing technology development projects to validate the process robustness prior to production implementation.
  • Develop facility floor space and layout requirements at both Ford and nonFord facilities plan schedule and lead the installation of the Process Automation prototype tooling and equipment at these facilities:
    • Interface with MTD UAW and Supplier Partners for testing and proveout of prototype tooling and equipment.
  • Coordinate manufacturing technology development project activities and balance travel as needed to complete tasks effectively leveraging a flexible work schedule between Ford onsite Supplier onsite and remote offsite locations.
  • Manage all aspects of the manufacturing technology development projects portfolio administration inclusive of:
    • Budget forecasts project funding submissions supplier quote solicitation purchase order placement invoice processing and financial check book accounting.
  • Prepare clear and concise technical and strategic packages for presentation review and approval at the peer crossteam crossorganizational and Senior Leadership levels. Grow secure and protect company intellectual property.
  • Create core technology documentation and upload to information share sites to facilitate knowledge transfer to Global Manufacturing Engineering (GME) personnel and support technology replications across global manufacturing sites.
  • Participate actively in the mentoring coaching and learning cascade activities across the manufacturing engineering teams and serve as an advocate to foster a manufacturing technology innovation culture across the enterprise.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial/Systems Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3 years experience in EV Manufacturing Process Automation.
  • Highly motivated selfstarter with strong leadership motivation and team building skills.
  • Exceptional project management multitasking and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a dynamic collaborative team setting.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to convey engineering and technical information with ease.
  • Adept with Digital 3D/Simulation Tools and Methods AutoCAD 3DX CATIA Siemens TeamCenter.
  • Proficient with the entire suite of Microsoft Office applications and tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial/Systems Engineering or related discipline.
  • Foundational education and knowledge in the field of EV Manufacturing Systems and processes.
  • Experience in a highvolume manufacturing environment with focus on production related process automation.
  • Familiarity with new program planning implementation launch deliverables and plant support requirements.
  • Exposure interacting with Senior Leadership Teams across Manufacturing Product Design and Manufacturing Sites.
  • Expertise in Data Analysis Methods and Statistical Process Control and/or Six Sigma Black Belt Certification.
