SUMMARY:The Elementary Behavior Interventionist will provide intervention and instruction to assist students in developingappropriate behavior coping skills and social skills. The teacher will providesupport to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for effecting positive behavioral change in students through learning skillsand success plans to meet the social and behavioral needs of individual students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Other duties may be assigned
- Assists in developing appropriate educational programming (behavior/success plans) for students with behavior challengesfor the purpose of establishing and maintaining appropriate school behaviors.
- Collaborates with staff in general education and/or special education environments for the purpose of providing support to the educational process.
- Consults with teachers to establish positive educational environments for the purpose of increasing learning opportunities for all students.
- Maintains documentation and monitors the behavior data of students for the purpose of ensuring compliance and mandated policies regulations and/or procedures.
- Observes students in multiple environments for the purpose of participating in providing data for formal assessment reports and plans.
- Participates in meetings such as IEP or 504 for the purpose of developing appropriate social emotional and behavioral goals.
- Participates in a variety of meetings workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
- Provides individual or group sessions for students for the purpose of teaching social and behavioral strategies and coping skills.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues to develop curriculum disaggregate student data and develop strategies to improve student achievement.
- Teaches Districtapproved curriculum and Behavior Intervention Support Team (BIST) programming.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum/behavior goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons and communicates these objectives to students.
- Evaluates students academic and social growth keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports and shares information with parents and guardians.
- Promotes parent participation and involvement in educational activities provided for their children and keep parents informed regarding progress (academic and behavioral/social).
- Is available to students and parents for educationrelated purposes outside the instructional day.
- Serves on District committees as assigned.
- Performs duties as assigned to maintain order and safety.
- Engages in professional development that supports the Districts CSIP and improves teaching skills and the development of student learners leading to improved student achievement.
- Observes confidentiality regarding students and staff when communicating with others.
- Observes all policies rules and regulations of the Board of Education as stated in the Board of Education policies.
- Participates in grade level and/or content area building and district meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervises classroom students aides volunteers and areas as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:A minimum of a Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree in Education for the appropriate grade level. Jobrelated experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS: Possess a valid State of Missouri Teaching Certificate for the appropriate assigned instructional area. Preferred: Training in Behavior Intervention Support Team (BIST) and/or other therapeutic behavior techniques Crisis Prevention or other boardapproved crisis management program Trauma Smart or other trauma training.
EVALUATION: This position is evaluated in accordance with district policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ninemonth employee. Some areas may require an extended contract. The salary is to be established by the Board of Education.
