What Youll Do:

Bentley Academy Innovation School in partnership with the Multilingual Learner Department of Salem Public Schools launched a twoway immersion SpanishEnglish dual language program with two kindergarten classrooms during theschool year. The twoway immersion program has grown by one grade level each year. The school will add two 5th grade classrooms for school year 2526. The goals of the program are for all students regardless of language background to become bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English to achieve academically in all subjects at high levels and to exhibit the skills and disposition of sociocultural competence.

Dual Language Elementary Teachers are responsible for planning and teaching interdisciplinary units of Math Science Social Studies and Spanish Language Arts in Spanish for English Learners and Spanish Learners together. Working closely with partner Dual Language teachers and the English language instruction teacher(s) the educator in this position will be highly collaborative thoughtful and creative with a focus on instructional excellence and equity for all students. They will also be integral in growing the program by participating in district and school professional development planning and strategy sessions engaging in family and community outreach to support the programs goals and development and acting as a steward of dual language.

In SY 202526 the program will include a PreK classroom and two classrooms of each grade from Kindergarten through Grade 4. As a 90/10 Spanish/English Dual Language program we seek teachers with a variety of Spanish and English proficiency levels based on the language of instruction in the grade.

Role Responsibilities:

• Teaches literacy language arts mathematics social studies science in Spanish and/or English depending on gradelevel and language allocation (see above).
• All teachers use strategies conducive to native speakers and language learners of the target language such as sheltered instruction (SEI) strategic pairing and cooperative learning.
• Uses the highquality curriculum of the school to develop lesson plans in partnership with English language instruction teacher(s) and the Bentley and Multilingual Learner team.
• Provides structure in the classroom by promoting a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning for students of all backgrounds and language proficiency levels using SEL and culturally responsive strategies.
• Prepares teaching materials and related reports including ongoing data analyses for the purpose of improving instruction implementing lesson plans and documenting student progress.
• Instructs and provides assistance for student learning individually or in groups designing lessons that both present and reinforce learning concepts.
• Uses appropriate inclusive practices such as tiered supports educational and assistive technologies scaffolded instruction and leveraging of students native language and linguistic resources to make gradelevel content accessible and affirming for all.
• Assesses students in language and content proficiency collects data participates in datainformed practices and adjusts instruction accordingly
• Communicates regularly and proactively with all families about student progress concerns and employs a culturally proficient and respectful approach in all communication
• Potential to serve on district Dual Language Task Force and attend local regional and national professional development sessions/conferences to contribute to development and sustainability of dual language program
• Works under the general supervision of the building principal and other building administrators at Bentley Academy Innovation School

Job Requirements:

• Bachelors Degree Required; Masters Degree preferred
• Native Literacy or Highly Advanced Proficiency in Spanish Required for Spanish teaching positions
• Required Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Elementary 16 or Early Childhood (K2
• Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement (Required within 1year of start date for teachers of English)
• Bilingual Educator Endorsement or willingness to obtain Bilingual Educator endorsement as required by MA state law (for teachers of Spanish)
• Dual Certification (content area) a plus
• Maintain professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the District and/or in selfselected professional growth activities.
• Minimum of 2 years teaching experience and working in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred.
• Proven track record of raising student achievement scores in an urban/turnaround environment highly desired.
• Proficiency with technology (blended learning teacher/family communication suites (Remind preferred) Google GSuite Apps etc. desirable.
• Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
• Licensure from other countries considered
