JOB TITLE: Athletic Director/Associate Principal

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

GENERAL DUTIES SUMMARY:

Tigard Tualatin School District is committed to equitable outcomes for all students especially for those that are underserved. The Athletic Director will be responsible for planning scheduling coordinating and supervising all athletics events involving the assigned school(s). The position of Assistant Principal supports the building principal in the daytoday operations of the building and overall school programs in achieving this goal.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As assigned by the principal the assistant principal may be responsible for the planning directing monitoring and/or supervising of activities or programming in instruction attendance student management fiscal management facilities maintenance and the evaluation of staff associated with these activities or under the broad guidance and administrative supervision of the school principal. Is responsible for quality effectiveness and smooth and efficient operation of the schools athletic program. Work is guided by and must be in compliance with the state regulating agency operational direction of District leadership policy direction of the School Board and compliance with state and local regulatory agencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedules all school athletic events within the restrictions of the school calendar and the length of each sports season and postseason schedule. Coordinates with parent groups and with transportation to assure proper scheduling of buses and supervision of trips. Coordinates with District and school and District staff to assure proper scheduling of athletic venues and to avoid conflicts in scheduling.
  • Applies a clear understanding of state rules pertaining to athletics in the performance ofathletic director duties. Has a clear understanding of the District athletic philosophy and an understanding of the structure of the sports calendar. Maintains and updates standard operating procedures for each school sport.
  • Attends athletic conference meetings and provides appropriate conference information and rules implementations as determined by OSAA and athletic conference.
  • Creates school athletic schedules in a timely fashion for distribution to administrators and secretaries well before the start of the sports season. Creates a school activity calendar prior to the end of each school year for use in the preceding school year.
  • Attending all school coaches meetings to distribute and explain schedules for each sportseason and to distribute the SOPs for the sports held in the upcoming with all school assistant principals activity coordinators and ASB staff on aregular basis throughout the school year to assure schedules and plans are updated communicated and understood. Communicating and coordinating with internal and external staff and stakeholders.
  • Providing outstanding customer service in communication with the public in person and via phone and email. Supporting coaches in creating a positive climate for students players and community.
  • Creating and maintaining positive collaborative relationships with District maintenance grounds and transportation departments.
  • Scheduling referee and game officials. Maintaining positive collaborative and professional relationships with each officials association which serves the school athletic program.
  • Maintaining positive contacts with neighboring school district athletic administrators for collaboration on filling schedule needs.
  • Managing special projects and performing other duties as assigned.
  • Supervising and evaluating coaches. May supervise and evaluate other school staff.
  • Developing and administering the athletic program budget ensuring that expenditures are within the approved funding level and that all expenditures are properly documented and processed. Planning for and processing necessary documentation for the purchase of athletic equipment and supplies.
  • Ensuring all coaches have met all relevant OSAA employment and other requirements prior to beginning coaching responsibilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assists with the planning implementation and evaluation of educational staff and programs.
  • Administer comprehensive student discipline and attendance program; assure stakeholder input in the planning implementation and evaluation of the program.
  • Collect interpret monitor and utilize quantitative and qualitative data to improve student instructional attendance and student management programs outcomes especially for marginalized students.
  • Assures the safety and welfare of all students.
  • Support and participate in federal programs and services such as IEPs 504s and English Language Learners.
  • Assist with the building of schedules such as master lunch/recess duty and the like.
  • Assist in providing systematic supervision of the internal budget and accounting procedures.
  • Assist in approving purchases and expenditures and monitor compliance with approved budgets
  • Assist with the management and care of the school plant equipment and materials.
  • Assures that students are provided academic and counseling support.
  • Assist in the facilitation of meetings with a variety of stakeholders including studentparentteacher conferences.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of programs for parent groups community agencies and promote culturally responsive public and schoolcommunity relations.
  • Assure that accurate records are kept on all students by establishing procedures for gathering andrecording information in accordance with state and district requirements.
  • Refer students as appropriate to community agencies and special education services as needed.
  • Assist in the coordination of hiring onboarding and inservice training and ongoing staff development of staff.
  • Maintains integrity of confidential information relating to students staff or district patrons.
  • May serve as lead building administrator in the absence of the principal.
  • Reports to and keeps building principal updated and informed.

Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students during extracurricular evening and noninstructional activities such as bus loading lunch and transitions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • Experience in working with diverse communities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with groups and individuals inside and outside of the organization.
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where direction may not always exist.
  • Demonstration of leadership and management abilities.
  • Successful coaching experience in an educational environment with a studentcentered education philosophy.
  • High level of knowledge and skill in sport safety to assure prevention and protection of students.
  • Understanding of current educational theory practice and trends in student management curriculum instruction and assessment.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with trauma informed and restorative practices.
  • Knowledge and experience in research based instructional practices and strategies.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with IEPs 504s ELLs and other federal programs and services.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with school finance and best practices.
  • Demonstrate advanced organization and communication skills to work with diverse students parents and staff.

Preferred:

  • Successful administrative or athletic director experience.
  • Bilingual bicultural and biliterate abilities in English and Spanish or other languages related to the student and family population of the District.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Culturally Responsive Teaching Framework.
  • Demonstration of a strong equity lens and knowledge of culturally responsive practices.
  • Experience creating and leading the implementation of Behavior Support Plans.

EDUCATION:

  • Masters degree in administration supervision curriculum or related area.
  • Hold or be willing to obtain the state of Oregon Administrative Certification.
