SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONALThank you for your interest in joining the team at Global Learning Charter Public School. We are seeking talented individuals who are adept at understanding and adapting to students from many different backgrounds with varied and unique learning GLCPS the most important quality that all of our team members possess is a genuine love and respect for children and a desire to help each one of our students succeed. We value collaboration communication creative thinking critical thinking and cultural awareness. We are a relatively small 500 students) urban school district with a diverse student body. Our teachers and support staff meet students and families where they are and start from there. We take a team approach to ensuring that each of our students reaches their full academic potential and learn 21st century skills such as technology literacy communication global citizenship and arts exploration. We recognize the importance of addressing our students social and emotional needs alongside academic and skills growth. At GLCPS our Special Education Teachers work in a handson environment with their students in an inclusion setting. Special Education Teachers work with General Education Teachers to provide modified content to learners with mild to moderate needs. Special Education Teachers at GLCPS follow a student cohort model usually working with small classes of 20 students (inclusion) with less than 10 Special Education Students. A typical case load is less than 15 students with 57 student small group resource courses. Students are 1:1 laptop in grades 512. Google Classroom and Google Apps help us to provide a projectbased learning environment with hands on applications that students can relate to. At GLCPS you will have the creativity to plan your own lessons modify content and the support of a great team of staff. You will get to know your students and be able to provide consistent lessons about content you are familiar with because of your small caseload and ability to be in class with your students. You will have prep time with your Team daily and free Professional Development opportunities built into your work week to continue your professional growth/earn PDPs and renew your license. Our Special Education Teachers are given guidance and supports to become great educators. JOB GOALS: Supports may include attending to students academic physical and/or social emotional needs. Through collaboration paraprofessionals assist the special education or general education teacher in daily instruction appropriately managing the classroom environment and are instrumental in supporting students in meeting their academic social and behavioral goals. REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education . QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Interest in children and education.
  • Desire to assist students with IEPs in an inclusive learning environment.
  • Emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved.
  • General knowledge of google technology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The paraprofessional will work under the direction and guidance of the special education/general education teacher administration and schoolbased personnel in supporting students growth and achievement including students IEP goals and objectives.
  • Assisting students in their learning across content areas in individual small group and whole group settings.
  • Assisting students in selfregulation and management of emotions and behavior to maximize student learning including but not limited to implementing and supporting behavior plans and classroom management programs.
  • Assisting and supporting students in their communication between peers school staff etc. including the use of assistive technology.
  • Supporting students transitions during arrival and dismissal between subjects/classes in school and between activities.
  • Paraprofessionals will provide support in the development of academic social emotional and behavioral skills with individuals or groups of students.
  • May be asked to review student IEPs on an as needed basis to ensure students needs are understood.
  • Demonstrated ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community.
  • Participates in inservice training programs as approved.
  • Maintains a safe working environment and encourages colleagues to be safety minded in the performance of all schoolrelated duties.
  • Performs other such duties/assignments as directed by the Principal or Special Education Director.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Approximately nine month working period.
  • 60day probation.
  • Salary per salary schedule and experience.
  • Position constitutes an employee at will of GLCPS with a contract length and salary to be established annually by the Board.
