Job Description

Job Summary

The University of the Fraser Valley invites applications for a fulltime faculty member in its School of Education which includes undergraduate level prerequisite courses; a 10 month postdegree Bachelor of Education (BEd) for prospective elementary middle and secondary teachers; a Master of Education (MEd) in Educational Leadership and Mentorship; an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate; and an Inclusive Education Assistant (IEA) Certificate. Classes occur on the Mission campus. The School of Education is committed to antiracism social justice decolonization and Indigenization and these commitments are incorporated into every course and program. Our graduates are valued as educators because of their strong ability to integrate educational theory and knowledge into a reflective teaching practice that is critically minded pedagogically sensitive and socially just.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses in the ECE Certificate program and work collaboratively with a variety of faculty sessionals and staff. The successful applicant will support the work of sessionals participate in admission processes and actively work to diversify the outdoor learning opportunities and programming for ECE. There are also additional expectations involving service to the university and the local community. A key responsibility of faculty in the School of Education is to ensure that ECE students are prepared to positively support families and childcare opportunities in the Fraser Valley and beyond. Given the values and commitments of the School of Education we actively seek to include diverse perspectives and are intentional in our desire to support diverse identity expression.

This is a position for an educator who enjoys the challenge of working in an innovative School and whose philosophy about education is consistent with the mission statement values and commitments for the MEd BEd ECE Certificate and IEA Certificate. This individual will alsoshare the facultys commitments to social justice and antiracism and to decolonizing and Indigenizing practices. As such the successful candidate would have knowledge of the School values and commitments and will embed them into their curriculum design and delivery.

Preference will be given to those applicants that can also teach in the BEd IEA Certificate and/or future programmatic plans (e.g. 5 Certificates).

We are looking for one tenure track Type B faculty who can teach the following courses:

  • ECE 100 and 120 (Human Development)
  • ECE 130 (Presenting Literature to Children)
  • ECE 135 (Process of Curriculum Development)
  • ECE 101 (Introduction to Early Childhood Education)

The ability to teach a combination of the following courses would be advantageous:

  • ECE 213 (Atypical Development)
  • ECE 269 (Foundations of Infant Caregiving)
  • ECE 223 (Administration of Childcare Centres)
  • ECE 282 (Programming for Infants/Toddlers)

Qualifications

  • MA or MEd in ECE field (PhD or EDD preferred).

  • Lived experience as or with superdiverse identities or communities.

  • Early Childcare Educator experience with infants toddlers and young children.

  • Experience with Indigenizing and decolonizing ECE practices.

  • Evidence of instruction in early childhood education in the specialty areas listed above.

  • Evidence of experience in mentorship.

  • Active research interest in Outdoor ECE Inclusive ECE and/or Special Early Childhood Education with knowledge of a variety of research traditions.

  • Evidence of experience and/or scholarship oriented towards a progressive vision of early childcare education that is inclusive and committed to social justice antiracism decolonization Indigenization critical thinking reflective practice pedagogical sensitivity and the integration of knowledge and practice.

  • Evidence of strong judgement/application of ethical decisionmaking; conflict resolution; applying due process/university policy; wellorganized/time management; and maintaining strong relationships with multiple external stakeholders.

  • Ability to contribute to innovative program development.

  • Evidence of collaboration.
