Job Description

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION

The Psychologists purpose is to work within the Cultural Safety & Wellbeing team to provide high level clinical consultations and therapeutic support to individuals and families to address mental health and wellbeing needs by:

Providing psychological services and therapeutic support to individuals and groups including to children young people and families.

Conduct Psychological Assessments for clients of GAC.

Provide clinical advice to GAC staff and managers about ethical and effective ways to address the mental health and wellbeing needs of clients.

Contribute to the design development and evaluation of the GACs mental health and psychological programs and services.

The Cultural Safety & Wellbeing Team provides multidisciplinary case management and support to Aboriginal people residing in the South West of Victoria Aboriginal Communities as part of an integrated service response.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide psychological services to clients

Undertake psychological assessments with clients including children young people and families.

Design evaluate and assist in the implementation of evidence based psychological interventions.

Prepare and assist in the implementation and review of individual plans for clients.

Consult and liaise regularly with families carers advocates and significant others.

Clinical Research Advice and Support

Conduct relevant research to assist in the improvement and evaluation of GAC Cultural Strengthening services in consultation with Team Leader others.

Contribute to the design development and evaluation of GACs mental health and psychological programs and services.

Provide clinical advice peer supervision and debriefing to staff as required.

Administrative

Maintain up to date accurate and comprehensive records and case notes in accordance with GAC policy AHPRA and best practice standards.

Attend team meetings and casework supervision meetings as required.

Write assessments and reports in a timely manner.

Adhere to ethical standards of clinical and research practice in accordance with AHPRA policy frameworks.

Child Protection

Report to F&CS all cases of suspected risk of harm to children and/or young people as per the Policies and Procedures.

Assist in the reporting and investigation of all relevant issues as prescribed by the Victorian Ombudsman.

Working Relationships

Relate to other work peers within GAC and other Government and NonGovernment organisations/services doing similar work.

Ensure the developments of therapeutic relationships with clients of the service are maintained professionally.

Communicate with referring agents and clinicians in the community involved in the ongoing management of individual consumers and their carers.
