Job Description

Job Title: Temporary Port Engineer Laborer Temporary FullTime

Location: OnSite Ketchikan Alaska

The InterIsland Ferry Authority (IFA) is committed to providing daily reliable ferry service from Prince of Wales (POW) Island Alaska (based in Hollis) to Ketchikan Alaska. Job Summary:

The Temporary Port Engineer Laborer is responsible for the routine inspection maintenance and repair of IFA vessels as assigned by the supervisor. They must be able to carry out line handling cleaning painting maintenance and storm watch and report all findings to the supervisor.

Credentials:

Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) Within 30 Days of Hire

Valid Alaska Drivers License

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will understand the location function operation and service procedures for all engine department equipment and ship systems. This includes but is not limited to batteries motors pumps gear valves tanks gauges indicators compressors filters strainers main power plants and fuel systems. Familiarity with the use of tools and equipment is essential as is knowledge of the layout of engine spaces normal operating pressures and temperatures of machinery and the ability to recognize when equipment is not functioning properly.

Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to read write and comprehend the English language effectively. Strong interpersonal skills are required with the ability to interact tactfully and courteously with the general public and fellow employees.

This temporary position is expected to extend from the date of hire until June.
