Description

Summary

The Board Operator/Announcer at Nevada Public Radio plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth technical of programming including the production of newscasts voice tracking and onair segments. This position is responsible for delivering consistent and engaging local contentsuch as underwriting messages news updates promotional material weather reports and special featuresacross Nevada Public Radios stations. Additionally the role includes recording local continuity for Classical 89.7 KCNV maintaining the same high standard and local relevance as with KNPR.


Duties and Essential Job Functions

  • Serves as onair host as scheduled.
  • Operates board console equipment to air prerecorded and live programming airing Emergency Alert System tests as required.
  • Takes transmitter readings.
  • Monitors the KCNV and KNPR onair signal as needed.
  • Runs live and recorded shows as scheduled.
  • Prepares and reads news items forward promotion weather information and underwriting announcements.
  • Prepares recorded breaks using standard broadcast digital recording/editing equipment.
  • Produces recorded promotions for special events/programming as assigned.
  • Prepares fundraising materials such as testimonials and dining promotions.
  • Participates in onair fundraising as assigned on KNPR and KCNV.
  • Other duties as assigned to facilitate operations of KNPR and KCNV fillin work on other onair shifts production administration studio bookings etc.
  • Write and post social media relating supporting format and brand objectives.
  • Appear in person at NVPR sponsored events as needed.
  • Communicates effectively and efficiently and exceeds the ongoing on air performance goals set to result in continuous improvement in the sound of continuity announcing and the presentation of news and promotional material to the audience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Engaging onair presence.
  • Consistent accuracy in delivery of underwriting and promotional copy.
  • Ability to execute legal/emergency procedures accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to make timely and accurate decisions regarding selection writing and delivery of news material (mostly unsupervised).
  • Willingness to receive constructive feedback and take steps to improve through coaching.
  • Ability to participate in fundraising activities in a teambased environment.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills.
  • Ability to write compelling online news copy and promotional copy associated with program.
  • Strong news judgment.
  • Confidence in creating and posting relevant social media content.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the role of public radio in the local community and the particular characteristics of public radio programming content and style.

Salary

$19.00 per hour; parttime temporary internship nonexempt position.

  • Expected hours up to 20 hours per week.

Requirements
  • Minimum of one onair professional experience preferably in noncommercial radio.
  • Strong onair sound deep vocabulary ability to read some foreign language names and terms.
  • Must be familiar with ENCO Systems.
  • General wideranging interest in news and culture.
  • Production experience including operation of broadcast equipment digital production work station audio storage system.
  • Experience in news judgment in selecting and using existing news stories/sources.
  • Solid writing skills to create onair scripts newscasts promotional materials and fundraising messages.
  • Ability to multitask anticipate problems and manage daytoday assignments effectively with minimum supervision while keeping supervisor up to date on progress and problems.
  • Degree or college credits in Broadcasting or Journalism desirable; this may be exchanged for work experience.
  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
Salary Description
$19.00 per hour
