DescriptionThe Manufacturing Engineer II is a pivotal role focused on optimizing manufacturing processes and increasing efficiency across various stages of construction at Vancouver Shipyards. This position involves improving workflows within key production areas including metal cutting fabrication welding outfitting and painting. Leveraging engineering expertise lean methodologies and data analysis the Manufacturing Engineer will drive innovation eliminate waste and enhance overall productivity. This role also requires technical proficiency to design and maintain tooling fixtures and manufacturing instructions while ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully onsite based at 50 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver.
What youll do
- Provide engineering support to cutting fitting welding outfitting and other production stages ensuring optimized workflows.
- Identify and eliminate waste in manufacturing processes using lean methodologies such as Six Sigma and value stream mapping.
- Perform time studies establish and maintain manufacturing time standards and analyze production metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
- Calculate workspace requirements and develop strategies to maximize space utilization while ensuring compliance with ergonomic and safety standards.
- Design create and maintain tooling jigs and fixtures to improve efficiency and accuracy in manufacturing processes. Work collaboratively with the team to design concepts using AutoCAD or other modeling software.
- Create and maintain clear and detailed manufacturing instructions standard operating procedures and routing documents.
- Investigate nonconformance issues perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions with followups to prevent recurrence.
- Partner with production teams trade workers and managers to ensure seamless communication and implementation of engineering solutions.
- Spend approximately 70 of the time on the production line to observe processes identify opportunities for improvement and support teams.
- Be available to work afternoon shifts as required to meet production schedules.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement driving initiatives that enhance safety quality and efficiency.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to meet organizational goals.
What youll bring
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering or a closely related field.
- Registered Professional Engineer (. with the appropriate provincial regulatory body.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment with preference given to candidates with shipbuilding experience.
- Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt) is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar 2D/3D modeling software.
- Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word PowerPoint Outlook).
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and present technical concepts.
- Ability to lead crossfunctional initiatives and inspire teams to adopt innovative solutions.
- Flexible and responsive to changing production demands and priorities.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while maintaining independence in decisionmaking.
- Demonstrated perseverance in driving projects to successful completion under challenging conditions.
- High level of precision and commitment to quality in all deliverables.
- Knowledge of Canadian engineering standards codes and regulations applicable to manufacturing and shipbuilding.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations in industrial environments.
- Physical ability to navigate the production floor including standing walking and climbing stairs as needed.

The estimated salary for this position is $82700 $99200. In determining final salary Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidates skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Companys sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
