Job Description

Up to 24 anticipated teaching positions in Brooklines STAR Academy a summer program for English learners and METCO students entering grades PreK through 8.

Program Information:

  • The program runs from Monday July 28th through Friday August 15 2025 and instruction takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program may be extended on specific dates to accommodate projectbased learning experiences.
  • The projected class size is twenty students. Each class will have a lead teacher and shared additional support (ex. assistant/paraprofessional).
  • Additional staff including a program director assistant director team leader teacher assistants paraprofessionals and adjustment counselors are expected to be a part of the program.

Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Work from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm daily except on days when the program may be extended to accommodate special programming.
  • Attend up to 3 meetings/orientation sessions prior to the start of the program up to 3 meetings during the program and commit to a maximum of 6 hours of paid preparation before the program begins.
  • Enhance and teach a curriculum that provides opportunities for students to increase their skills in reading writing speaking and comprehension as well as learn content area vocabulary and concepts.
  • Communicate as needed with families and report on each students progress.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience teaching students in any grades PreK8
  • Knowledge of best instructional practices in teaching English as a second language and supporting content learning for all students
  • Knowledge of local and state learning expectations in ELA Math Science and Social Studies
  • Ability to implement culturally responsive teaching practices that support the diverse needs of students in the program
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues
  • MA teaching license (SEI Endorsement preferred)
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Masters degree preferred
  • Citizenship residency or work VISA in United States required
Additional Requirements:
  • Attend all meetings that are scheduled for STAR Academy staff to the greatest extent possible
  • Be energetic with a strong desire to work with children
  • Communicate effectively both in written and oral form using positive interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information
  • Model responsible use of technology including personal cell phones
  • Provide a safe learning environment for students
  • Be a positive role model for students
  • Be fluent in English; knowledge of another language is strongly preferred
