REPORTS TO: PAKAN SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
TERM LENGTH: 1 YEAR TERM CONTRACT: FULLTIME EMPLOYMENT
Job Summary:
Whitefish Lake First Nation #128 a Cree community in northeastern Alberta is seeking a dynamic and inspiring Physical Education Teacher
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a comprehensive Physical Education program for students of all grades; provide all Physical Education short and long range plans
Establish a positive inclusive and respectful learning environment that supports all students
Collaborate with all colleagues nation members and elders to maximize student learning that promotes cultural understanding
Assess and record all student learning and provide differentiated instruction as needed; fully involved in the reporting to parents process
Establish and maintain meaningful intramural and interschool sports programs
Participate in all schoolwide learning opportunities schoolbased community events and the schools landbased learning program; demonstrate lifelong learning
Integrate technology in the program where applicable
Promote healthy living
Work in collaboration with the nations Recreation Director to enhance community activities
Other duties as assigned by the Principal
Qualifications & Skills:
Fluency in the Cree language would be an asset
Minimum of Bachelor of Education degree with specialization in Physical Education preferred
Proven successful experience in Grade K9 Physical Education
In possession of a valid Alberta Interim or Permanent Teaching Certificate
History of ongoing professional and personal development to support Physical Education
Submission of a current Intervention Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
Communicate regularly and collaborate with other Physical Education teachers
Knowledge of healthy lifestyles and nutrition would be a definite asset
Must be able to submit a Teacher Qualification Service statement
Demonstrate complete understanding of the Physical Education program of studies/curriculum
Demonstrate an understanding of the history of First Nation education trauma and trauma informed practices
Demonstrate a willingness to learn the tradition values and customs of the Whitefish Lake First Nation 128.
Working Conditions:
Opportunity to reside in teacherage if available
Regular evening or weekend work for planning or supporting community events
Understanding of Indigenous cultures language traditions and sensitivity to the needs of the community (preferred).
