Job Description

Raptors are beneficial to humans because they feed on carrion thereby reducing harmful effects. However despite their importance raptors get little conservation attention and are becoming increasingly threatened. To address this gap WWF India has initiated raptor conservation. WWFIndia is seeking dynamic and selfmotivated biologists who are passionate about conducting research and conservation activities to support raptors and overall environmental wellbeing. The candidate will be responsible for onground actions for raptor and habitat conservation including data analysis and producing highquality technical outputs. Other responsibilities include facilitating the development of proposals for conservation projects supporting project management and monitoring and evaluation engaging with key stakeholders (government and nongovernment agencies) and contributing to conservation research and technical output development. This position will be based in a field location within the Brahmaputra Landscape (Assam).

Location:Tezpur Assam

Job Profile:

  • Undertake raptor research and monitoring in the landscape to assess the status of their populations distribution and factors affecting their longterm survival.
  • To promote communitybased raptor conservation work with communities in BHL to establish/strengthen existing Community Institutions (CI) SelfHelp Groups (SHG) EDC and other institutions through intensive community consultations and where required provide/leverage inputs on capacity building of members.
  • Understand the training needs of forest department frontline staff and support the development of training modules for integration with existing wildlife monitoring courses of Assam forest training schools.
  • Support the development of implementation plans planning figures and budgets.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and the communication team at WWFIndia Secretariat for support in grounding the communication plan of the raptor conservation program in the landscape.
  • Build dialogue and relationships with other civil society groups active in the district/project area especially those involved in work that impacts or is closely aligned with the work of WWFIndia.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly technical reports scientific publications and other communication material.
  • Work closely with all team members to design and undertake studies analysis and documentation towards analysing the impact (including in quantitative terms) of WWF Indias work in BHL.

Requirements

Desired Qualifications Experience and Abilities:

  • Masters in Science/ Zoology / Wildlife Conservation/Veterinary Science/ Conservation Practice or related discipline.
  • 1 2 years experience of working in landscapes and an experience of working with Raptors would be preferred.
  • Experience of working with local communities/NGOs
  • Liaison with local partners
  • Ability to document and write reports.
  • Ability to monitor and review work.
  • Assist in managing partnerships
  • Timely delivery of work
