The Department of Enrichment and Extended Learning is responsible for the planning and oversight of afterschool vacation and summer learning opportunities that meet the unique needs and pathways of students attending Holyoke Public Schools. We believe that if we:
- Identify the knowledge and skills needed for students to step up successfully and develop a projectbased standardsaligned curriculum across all grade levels
- Embed research best practices throughout every aspect of program design
- Engage CBOs and other enrichment providers in planning and implementing bold innovative projectbased and standards informed enrichment
- Engage and support the best teachers through highquality curriculum resources professional learning and ongoing observation and feedback
- Involve and build relationships with students and families throughout the process
Holyoke Public Schools offers programming that reinforces skills learned during the school year that will strengthen areas of growth while providing learners with a supportive environment for students to develop their academic and social emotional growth.
DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Manager of Enrichment and Extended Learning the Enrichment Instructor will facilitate highquality projectbased academic enrichment activities during Acceleration Academy. Programming is designed to accelerate student learning through engaging standardsaligned lessons. The enrichment facilitator should be creative engaging and flexible in their management of students. They should have a clear vision for their enrichment program and demonstrated talent or ability in a specific area of enrichment programming (i.e. STEM health/wellness arts dance service learning civic engagement entrepreneurship etc.
Multiple positions are available at varying HPS sites for students in grades K5.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities are aligned to the District Turnaround Plan and include but are not limited to:
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plan and implement interactive projectbased learning activities that engage students in multiple modalities of learning and interest of students. Submit plans for review and feedback.
- Create a safe and supportive learning environment that is appropriate to the maturity and interests of students and conducive to learning.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establish clear objectives for all lessons units projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
- Strive to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education instructional goals and objectives.
- Consistently monitor and adjust based on feedback to better engage and meet the needs of students
- Guide the work of all noncertified staff in the classroom including youth development workers paraprofessionals and college mentors
- Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree preferred
- Strong interest training and expertise in enrichment content
- Prior experience working with urban youth required
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with youth and demonstrate cultural competence
- Demonstrated interest and expertise in enrichment content
- Studentfirst mentality and growth mindset
- Ability to develop related enrichment skills in students with a strong emphasis on skills related to socialemotional learning
