Job Description

Job Title: Bilingual Educational Diagnostician Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Dept. /School: DistrictWide Pay Grade: TBD

Reports to: Director of Special Services Date Revised: May 20 2024



Primary Purpose:

Implement the special education evaluation process. Assess the educational learning styles and program needs of students referred to special education services in English and Spanish. Provide evaluative information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities. Represent assessment at ARD meetings involving evaluation on the assigned campuses including scheduling and conducting ARD meetings. Ensure the implementation of Individualized Education Programs on campuses.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Masters degree in educational assessment
  • Valid Texas Educational Diagnostician and Teaching certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Fluent Bilingual (English/Spanish)Highly desired
  • Ability to administer and interpret evaluation instruments
  • Strong ability to make academically appropriate recommendations to ARD committees based on evaluation results
  • Strong written expressive and receptive Spanish and English language skills
  • Knowledge of the Special Education ARD and IEP process
  • Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers parents and students
  • Excellent organizational communication interpersonal and time management skills
  • Strong technology skills
  • Proficient in working with the Google Suite of applications and special education student management system

Experience:

  • Special education teaching experience (strongly preferred)

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Assessment

  • Receive student referrals and implement the assessment and evaluation process.
  • Select and administer formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and Texas Education Agency regulations and based on the language needs of the Student.
  • Collect and organize relevant assessment data from the students cumulative folder classroom teachers(s) principal support staff parents and outside agencies.
  • Conduct classroom observation and personal interviews.
  • Participate in the Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with interpretation of assessment data appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures
  • Meet all timelines for initial specially requested and triennial evaluations
  • Follow local state and federal requirements for training regarding evaluations for students with Dyslexia

Consultation

  • Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel in identification and understanding of students with disabilities.
  • Consult with classroom teachers on how to implement the IEP.
  • Consult with parents concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.
  • Consult with teachers administrators and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students
  • Provide guidance to special educators on best practices in the delivery of specially designed instruction

Program Management

  • Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with students and parents.
  • Assist in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the assessment program and make changes based on findings.
  • Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and local board policy in the areas of assessment placement and planning for special education services.
  • Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Effectively use the special education management program
  • Ensure that IEP documents are completed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Serve as the member of the evaluation team with specific knowledge of dyslexia evaluations
  • Support Child Find efforts throughout the district
  • Assist campus staff with ensuring State and Local testing accommodations have been organized

Communication

  • Maintain positive professional and collaborative relationships with all members of the evaluation team
  • Provide communication to all necessary evaluation specialists and related service providers about new evaluation referrals in a timely manner
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues students parents and supervisors
  • Maintain positive and effective relationships with supervisors

Other

  • Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting and carrying. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities. Tolerate moderate standing stooping bending and lifting 20 lbs. occasionally.
