Program Overview:
Salem Public Schools in partnership with the Salem YMCA is seeking dedicated and qualified educators to join our 5week Summer Academy program. This program provides engaging and enriching learning experiences for rising 1st through 5thgrade students from July 7 to August 8 Monday through Friday at Horace Mann School.
Teacher Program Hours: 7:30 AM 12:30 PM Monday Thursday
Mandatory Training: June 23th & 24th (attendance required)
Teacher Positions:
We are seeking passionate teachers to implement a ProjectBased Learning curriculum fostering collaborative problemsolving experiences that integrate academic learning with interdisciplinary or service learning projects.
Available Positions:
- Dual Language Teachers 34 Positions): Support mixed classrooms of dual language students (rising 1st4th grade).
- Elementary Teachers 5 Positions): Deliver Playful Learning Curriculum (rising 1st & 2nd graders) or Science & Civics Curriculum (rising 3rd5th graders).
Teacher Responsibilities:
- Lead and instruct a group of 1822 students.
- Implement a ProjectBased Learning curriculum.
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals to manage classrooms and address behavioral needs.
- Provide consistent supervision and communication throughout the program day.
- Apply child growth and development principles to engage and empower students.
- Help provide supervision and educational support for students creating a quality learning experience that focuses on building achievement in literacy and social skills.
School Adjustment Counselor (SAC) Positions 12 Positions):
The SAC will provide therapeutic interventions and supports to identified students and families ensuring the implementation of IEP goals and alignment with traumainformed practices and SEL curriculum.
SAC Program Hours: 8:00 AM 4:00 PM Monday Friday
Mandatory Training: June 23th & 24th (attendance required)
SAC Responsibilities:
- Facilitate individual and group counseling interventions based on IEP goals.
- Conduct social skills groups and individual counseling on various topics (e.g. social communication conflict resolution mindfulness).
- Conduct mental health assessments including risk assessments and suicide ideation protocols.
- Consult with teachers regarding student emotional and academic concerns.
- Collect and analyze data to inform counseling interventions and IEP goals.
- Complete observations and assessments to identify students with disabilities.
- Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments and develop Positive Behavioral Intervention Plans.
- Collaborate with the Summer Program team to create a supportive learning environment.
- Support specific districtwide programs for students with social/emotional disabilities autism spectrum disorders intellectual disabilities and languagebased learning disabilities as assigned.
Qualifications (Teachers & SACs):
- Current teacher licensure through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education.
- Bachelors degree and at least 2 years of teaching/counseling experience (practicum experience considered).
- Previous experience working with diverse student populations in a developmental setting preferred.
- Ability to plan organize and implement ageappropriate activities.
- Ability to develop positive relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- SAC specific experience with IEP developement and implementation.
- SAC specific experience with Functional behavioral assessments.
- SAC specific experience with mental health assessments.
Compensation:
- Teachers: $45 per hour (contractual rate).
- SAC: Hourly rate based on current salary.
