JOB SUMMARY:

As a substitute teacher you will have the opportunity to work directly with a diverse student population that will require the same attention and nurturing as a classroom teacher. You will be an essential member of the district in helping our students prepare for their future success through the instruction you will provide in lieu of their regular classroom teacher.

The substitute teacher meets the educational needs of our students when the regular teacher is absent by following the assigned lesson plans managing classroom behavior and documenting important occurrences during the school day.

Starting wage:
$140.00/day: High School Diploma/GED or Associates Degree
$155.00/day: Bachelors/Masters/PhD Degree
$185.00/day: Teaching Certificate
$185.00/day: Retired SLCSD teacher
$220.00/day: LongTerm Rate
(effective after 20 consecutive days teaching in the same classroom)
Pay rate will be $140.00/day unless official college/university transcripts or diploma are provided.

Note: This position is part time oncall and jobs can be selected through a notification system. All new hired substitutes cannot begin working as a substitute until they have completed the required online district trainings.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent
  2. Ability to pass a fingerprint and criminal background check
  3. Able to roll push pull bend reach stoop and lift up to 30 pounds
  4. Speak read write and present professionally analyze and interpret English written and verbal communications
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office Word Excel Outlook
  6. Ability to operate standard office equipment; phone copy and fax machines etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelors Degree or higher
  2. Teaching license from any state
  3. Participating in or have completed a teaching program
  4. Knowledgeable of content pedagogy and student development stages

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teach as scheduled and assigned by location classroom and subject.
  2. Follow and implement student lesson plans by translating into learning activities.
  3. Organize classroom space for safety and for effective learning.
  4. Create a respectful classroom environment establishing developmentally and culturally appropriate positive and respectful teacherstudent interactions.
  5. Establish a culture for learning setting an expectation for learning and achievement conveying the importance of the content and displaying knowledge of students skills.
  6. Use a wide variety of appropriate resources for diverse learning styles; adjust lessons respond to student questions and interests and provide a variety of approaches when students have difficulties.
  7. Engage students in learning through use of content activities instructional materials assignments student groupings questioning and discussion techniques and the structure and pacing of the lessons.
  8. Manage student behavior in the classroom and at other school sponsored events by establishing clear expectations monitoring and dealing with students throughout class time and appropriately to correcting misbehavior while respecting student dignity.
  9. Communicate clearly and accurately using appropriate vocabulary for age and interests and provide specific and timely feedback to enhance learning.
  10. Maintain accurate records of students completion of assignments student progress and other noninstructional records.
  11. Communicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with students supervisors coworkers parents and other district employees.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Additional Essential Functions Long Term Substitute

  1. Develop clear relevant and student appropriate instructional goals based on content area concepts.
  2. Design clear focused and coherent instruction for flexible groupings meeting student needs.
  3. Communicate to engage families in the instructional program by providing information about the instructional programs and individual student progress.
  4. Plan lessons utilizing assessment and evaluation techniques.
  5. Contribute to the school and the District by establishing and maintaining professional relationships with colleagues and participating in District and school projects/extracurricular activities.
  6. Evaluate own teaching effectiveness against learning outcomes and make appropriate adjustments to improve student learning.
  7. Proactively serve and advocate for students by participating in team or departmental decision making.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting carrying pushing and pulling up to 30 pounds some stooping kneeling crouching and crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60 sitting 10 walking and 30 standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
