Driven by our desire to help students thrive in their academic and personal lives the Saanich School District provides quality educational programs and a safe and nurturing learning environment for the over 7000 culturally diverse students within its 18 schools. Serving the Saanich Peninsula located just north of Victoria BC the district has one of the highest graduation rates in the province and a student body that consistently scores well on annual assessment tests thanks in large part to the dedication and efforts of our 900 teaching and support staff.
Position Temporary Teacher
Assignment Type Temporary
FTE/Point Time 0.4 Point Time
Schedule: Wednesday and Thursday 8:40 to 2:48
Required Qualifications :
- A valid BC Teaching Certificate
- Bachelor of Education (Elementary)
- Major in French and fluency equivalent to a native speaker in both written and oral French
- Board certified to teach French Immersion
- Additional Teacher training/certification e.g.:
- Coursework specific to kindergarten e.g. playbased learning
- Coursework specific to early childhood development
- Certificates relative to early learning or kindergarten
- Evidence of recent successful teaching and experience at the kindergarten level (Kindergarten practicum is acceptable) including French Immersion classes
Desired Qualities/Attributes:
- Demonstrated ability to provide physical activity to Kindergarten students to enhance the fullday Kindergarten program
- Strong background in playbased learning and experience providing a playbased program in an early primary setting
- Teacher training/certification based on early childhood learning (e.g. Early Childhood Education); and/or other relevant training or experience that could be considered toward equivalency for a lack of teaching experience at the fullday kindergarten level
- Thorough and current knowledge of the fullday kindergarten curriculum
- Understanding of Early Childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices
- Commitment to support the full range of student abilities
- Effective communication skills with students parents and colleagues
- Commitment to continuing professional development
- Successful experience with adapting and modifying materials for a diversity of learners
- Working knowledge of using computing technology to support learning
- A commitment to the Principles of Inclusive Schools and Principles of Learning
- Good working knowledge of and experience with The Primary Program: A Framework for Teaching
- Demonstrated skill and ability to work with young children with diverse learning needs
- Knowledge of current best practice in early literacy instruction
- Knowledge of current best practice in early mathematics instruction
- Ability to adapt curriculum to serve the needs of all students
