Background

The Department of African Studies and Anthropology is seeking a Workshop and Conference Assistant to work with Prof Insa Nolte to plan and organise events during the 2025 Cadbury workshop 19 March to 30 June 2025 and the international Cadbury conference 1213 June 2025. In addition to event and conference organisation a key purpose of the role is to support threeAfricabased visiting Cadbury Fellowsduring their stay at the University of Birmingham.

This role is a fixed term position at an average of 20 hours/ week starting on 5 May 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter and ending on 4 July 2025. Due to the nature of the role it will require working outside of normal office hours and may include work on weekends.

Role Summary

This post is intended to provide organisational and personal support to the Department of African Studies and Anthropologys hosting of three Africabased visiting Cadbury Fellows between 19 March and 30 June 2025. It will also support the planning and organisation of an international twoday conference on 1213 June 2025. The role is ideally suited for a PhD or graduate student with experience in working with others and organising events who would like to gain experience in hosting and working with African and international scholars and of workshop and conference organisation.

Main Duties

The post holder will work closely with Prof Nolte as well as other relevant colleagues in the Department to ensure that the Cadbury Fellows are supported and that workshop and conference events take place as planned. This will involve:
