Job Description

DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY AND FIRE MANAGEMENT

Manage and reduce fire risk to protect Arizonas people communities and wildland areas to champion the health of Arizonas natural resources. The Department of Forestry and Fire Management provides services through strategic implementation of cooperative natural resources and fire assistance programs development and support of statewide fire policies and coordination of resources across alllands and jurisdictions.

Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM) Internship provides an introductory experience to one or more agency activities. Interns collaborate and conduct informational interviews with program staff attend meetings and fieldwork sessions and learn about products and deliverables relevant to the DFFM program areas. Interns may shadow all DFFM program areas of the internship program or only those of interest. The incumbent will be hired for a specific technical shortterm project or purpose in the fields of forestry and fire management. Interns will produce a deliverable and presentation upon conclusion of their internship. This position is considered preentrylevel and will receive dedicated mentoring throughout the internship.

It may be required to work outside of regular business hours including weekends and holidays. Travel may be required to attend meetings events and project work.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the departments business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

All work including remote work should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.

Job Duties:

Undertake complete and present on specific technical project(s) related to forestry and fire management.
Actively participate in meetings and fieldwork sessions to deepen understanding of forestry and fire management.
Collaborate closely with DFFM staff to engage in job shadowing informational interviews and mentoring.
Gather information and conduct research.
Other duties as assigned.

Selective Preference(s):

Current enrollment in or recent graduation (within one year) from a fouryear university with a focus in Forestry Natural Resources Fire Sciences Geographic Information Systems Environmental Science/Education Sustainability Ecology Biology Botany or a related field.

PreEmployment Requirements:

A valid Arizona Drivers License.

Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid classappropriate drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C. R210207.11.
