Job Description
JOB TITLE: High School Science Teacher
REPORTS TO:Building principal and district superintendent.
JOB GOAL:To cultivate a dynamic and engaging classroom where students develop a strong understanding of scientific principles enhance their critical thinking and problemsolving abilities and foster a love for exploration and discovery in science.
SUPERVISES:Students and para educators as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in a sciencerelated field (e.g. Biology Chemistry Physics Environmental Science) is required. A masters degree is highly desirable.
- Valid teaching certification or license with the required endorsement in science education at the high school level.
- Proven experience teaching high school science courses preferably in a diverse educational setting.
- Indepth knowledge of scientific principles theories and applications across multiple disciplines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and connect with students
- colleagues and parents/guardians.
- Ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student participation
- collaboration and critical thinking.
- Proficiency in utilizing technology and educational software to enhance teaching and learning
- Excellent organizational skills to manage curriculum development lesson planning and assessment processes effectively.
- Dedication to ongoing professional development and a commitment to staying uptodate with the latest teaching methodologies and scientific advancements.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Passion for science education and a genuine desire to inspire and motivate students to pursue further studies or careers in sciencerelated fields
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive science curriculum aligned with educational standards ensuring it caters to the diverse learning needs and abilities of high school students.
- Create lesson plans instructional materials and assessments that facilitate active learning and encourage critical thinking problemsolving and scientific reasoning.
- Conduct engaging and interactive classroom sessions labs and demonstrations to effectively convey scientific principles and concepts.
- Provide clear explanations facilitate discussions and answer student inquiries to enhance their understanding and engagement with the subject matter.
- Assess student performance regularly through tests projects assignments and quizzes and provide constructive feedback to support their academic growth.
- Monitor and track individual student progress identifying areas of improvement and implementing appropriate interventions or extra support as needed.
- Collaborate with other science teachers and faculty members to share best practices resources and innovative teaching techniques to enhance the overall learning experience.
- Integrate technology scientific tools and resources into the curriculum to enhance student learning and prepare them for realworld applications of science.
- Develop and maintain a positive classroom environment. Establish and maintain collaborative professional relationships with others.
- Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students parents and colleagues concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of students.
- Teach students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior by developing a written classroom plan that is connected to the school wide behavior expectations (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports).
- Participate in districtwide improvement efforts/district initiatives.
- Engage in professional learning and implement strategies to support the learning needs of multilingual learners.
- Guide and mentor students in sciencerelated extracurricular activities such as science fairs clubs and competitions fostering their interest in scientific exploration.
- Maintain accurate and uptodate records of student attendance grades and assessments and communicate student progress with parents/guardians and school administration as required.
- Stay abreast of advancements and developments in the field of science education participating in professional development activities to continuously enhance teaching methodologies and subject knowledge.
- Other duties as assigned by building administration or district superintendent
LIMITS OF AUTHORITY:Has authority over students and para educators as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Contractual agreement in accordance with WAC parameters of state laws and the negotiated agreement the individual contract district rules and regulations and administrative directives.
LENGTH:180day work year
SCHEDULE:7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:As determined by the Board of Directors state law local board policy and the collective bargaining agreement
EVALUATION:At least annually on or before May 1st by the building principal or designee. New or probationary employees are evaluated more often as per state law WACs GEA contract and district policy.
