We are currently seeking a talented Kindergarten Teacher to join the Del Van Gorder School team. Del Van Gorder is a thriving K12 rural school located in the picturesque former mining town of Faro Yukon. The school offers a highly academic trades and artsfilled program of instruction to its population of roughly 50 students. The school boasts modern facilities including a home economics centre wood and metal shop and a fullsize gymnasium. Del Van Gorder School also compliments a music room Community Library and is attached to the Yukon University facility.
Faro is located on the traditional territory of the Ross River Dena Council. Set amongst gorgeous mountains Faro is surrounded by lakes and rivers with an abundance of trails (for hiking snow shoeing snowmobiling ATVs etc. and big wildlife. It is a culturally diverse community of roughly 400 residents and despite its small population boasts an array of businesses and services unusual for a town of this size. These include an interpretive centre a convenience grocery and hardware store a recreation centre (with skating rink squash court weight room gym a seasonal indoor pool and community facilities) a health centre a restaurant and bar an arts society a volunteer fire department a liquor store a golf course a territorial agent office churches etc.

Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent; with specialization in elementary education;
- Recent experience teaching at primary/elementary grade levels;
- Recent experience in the use of current researchbased practices for assessment strategies and literacy and numeracy learning;
- Recent experience designing inclusive learning environments for children with a wide range of abilities and developmental levels;
- Additional training in Special Education is considered an asset;
- Experience in implementation of selfregulation and restorative practices in the classroom setting is an asset;
- Experience with a trauma sensitive approach is an asset.
Desired knowledge skills and suitability
The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications skills and knowledge but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:
- Knowledge of and ability to help develop and implement Individual Education Plans Student Learning Plans and Behaviour Support Plans;
- Strong classroom management planning and organizational skills;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work and contribute as a member of a professional learning community;
- Experience incorporating First Nations knowledge and outdoor education/experiential education into the curricular studies an asset;
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population.
Conditions of Employment
This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:
- Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security clearance including vulnerable sector check.
- Yukon First Nations 101 to be completed within one year.
