Job Description

REPORTS TO: Director of Boston Community Hub Schools

Background & Overview:

The Boston Community Hub School (BCHS) Coordinator is a schoolbased position responsible for working closely with the school administrative teams to strategically organize the assets and resources of the school community and its many stakeholders (students families school leadership teachers staff and partners) in service of students individual and collective academic success and wellbeing. BCHS Coordinators should be assetbased in their approach to supporting the success of students and the school community seeking first to understand the inherent talents and cultural wealth of the community.

The role of the BCHS Coordinator goes beyond simply coordinating resources and partnerships to informing strategic planning and implementation collaborating with families and students to develop their organizing capacity and build out an organizing strategy and supporting sustainable structures for the cultivation of trusting relationships and partnerships. This role requires a dynamic person who can effectively navigate and interconnect multiple systems to support success for students. Coordinators are expected to work at their school including hours beyond the school day and days beyond the school year. They will be expected to meet remotely or offsite regularly with BPS central office and YMCA BCHS leadership.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a climate of joy unity inclusion culture and equity in the school community through deliberate commitment to culturally and linguistically sustaining practices (CLSP) and decisionmaking guided by use of the Racial Equity Planning Tool.
    • Build and maintain positive trusting relationships with all parties to support collaboration
    • Contribute to the schools capacity to create and execute systems and processes that advance racial equity
    • Work with the schools administrative team to ensure community partners are assetbased and committed to culturally and linguistically affirming practices for students and families and ensure high quality programming.
    • Participate in relevant school based teams/governance structures in order to support connecting community resources to the academic success and overall well being of students.
  • Coordinate the of an assets and opportunities assessment to inform antiracist decisionmaking and actionplanning
    • Engage representative body of stakeholders in leading the implementation of the assessment leveraging existing structures when possible
    • Review and analyze archival and existing data in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders
    • Obtain data on the schools students families staff and partners assets aspirations and needs
    • Collect and organize data on systems and practices of the school and to the extent relevant the district
    • Support the development of reports on the schools systems and practices as it relates to antiracism and student academic progress
  • Based on the schools Assets and Opportunities Assessments and in collaboration with the appropriate schoolbased stakeholders:
    • Support in identifying and developing strategic partnerships that can provide access to opportunities and experiences that complement and/or enrich the learning and lives of students and families so that they can unlock the greatness within them
    • Leverage resources that empower students and families to lead sustainable solutions
    • Support the Family Liaison to identify parent leaders and bring them into community school leadership opportunities
    • In collaboration with the Family Liaison and other family support roles build out an organizing strategy for families and support this by coordinating resources that cultivate and sustain this

  • Participate in regular BCHS Coordinator meetings and professional development opportunities as required and requested by the BCHS Director; participate in other related PD offered by the district and partners
  • Support the evaluation of the 3year Boston Community Hub Schools pilot
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the school leader and/or the BCHS Director
  • Develop budgets fundraising and resource developments in support of school community priorities
  • Data Analysis to determine how to best identify resources to support the school community

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum two 2 years experience working in an urban setting with diverse populations with proven effective and culturally responsive experience serving the Black/African Latinx Asian diaspora and immigrant communities
  • Minimum 2 years experience working in Boston Public Schools
  • Proven knowledge about Boston its communities and its resources
  • Deep understanding of and experience with community organizing
  • Commitment to understanding the impact of the stresses of racism and poverty on students and their families served within urban school systems
  • Ability to facilitate conversations regarding race ethnicity racism culture and racial equity
  • Strong presentation and facilitative leadership skills with audiences of various sizes of various educational backgrounds and with competing agendas
  • Able to take initiative and work in teams and independently without consistent direct supervision
  • Advanced skills with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Suite
  • A valid drivers license and/or access to reliable transportation
  • Available to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends (This is a fulltime 12month position. Hours vary based on school buildings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates with a background in community organizing social work positive youth development and/or education are encouraged to apply
  • Familiar with database systems used to organize student data such as ASPEN Panorama Salesforce etc
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and information summarize and present findings to decisionmakers and make accessible for public consumption
  • Strong marketing design and communication skills
  • Strong preference for linguistic diversity and interest in candidates who are fluent in one of the following languages: Espaol (Spanish) Kriolu (Cape Verdean Creole) Kreyl (Haitian Creole) AfricanAmerican Vernacular English (AAVE) (Vietnamese) Soomaali (Somali) (Arabic) Portuguesa (Portuguese) American Sign Language (Chinese)
