The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science leading policy and advocacy campaigns and building partnerships.
We plan to spend 16bn over the next ten years funding new discoveries in life health and wellbeing and taking on three global health challenges: mental health infectious disease and climate and health.
These challenges need the bold science we support but they wont be solved by science alone.
We are looking for a Science Writer to join our team.
Where in Wellcome will I be working
You will be in the Stakeholder Communications Team within Corporate Affairs reporting to the Stakeholder Communications Lead.
The Stakeholders Communications Team oversees the planning and delivery of communications activity to support Wellcomes vision and mission. The team includes two Science Writers who work closely with colleagues from across Wellcome to develop content for Wellcomes Research Programmes covering Discovery Research Climate and Health Mental Health and Infectious Diseases.
What will I be doing
You will be developing and delivering scientific content and thought leadership helping Wellcome to build and maintain its reputation as a global leader in research.
As a Science Writer you will:
Produce a range of technical scientific content for internal and external channels including specialist research publications.
Attend events and workshops and producing reports papers and other written documents.
Contribute to a thought leadership programme aligned to Wellcomes mission by writing articles aimed at the scientific community and other specialist audiences.
Provide writing support to wider Corporate Affairs on specific projects that involve a technical/specialist audience.
Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation collaborating across departments.
Is this job for me
We are looking for someone who has experience of sourcing researching writing and editing technical scientific content. You will be able to produce a range of content including narratives slide decks research summaries and reports.
We are looking for somebody who has:
Experience of scientific or technical writing and adapting complex information into a range of outputs.
Experience as a writer either as a journalist in an agency or in house
Outstanding written communication skills including excellent storytelling grammar clarity of expression interviewing technique.
Ability to build rapport and to influence a diverse range of stakeholders at all levels including senior staff.
