Job Description

Status: Temporary Full Time

Commencement: Term 3 2025

Position Location: Burgmann Anglican School Valley Campus

Burgmann Anglican School is an Early Childhood to Year 12 School with campuses located at Gungahlin and Forde.

The school prides itself on its innovative and creative approach to curriculum and education and its strong sense of community and pastoral care of the students and their families and the staff of the school. The school has a strong link with the Gungahlin Anglican Church which shares facilities and resources with the school.

Line Management

This position will be responsible to the Heads of Sub School and ultimately the Principal. The appointee will be required work collaboratively with year group teachers.

Duties

Curriculum Teaching and Learning

  • Cooperatively plan and deliver an information literacy program to Middle School students in collaboration with Deputy Heads of sub schools.
  • Plan teach and evaluate collaboratively with teachers to support the teaching of the general capabilities and in particular critical and creative thinking and ICT.
  • Plan teach and evaluate collaboratively with teachers to support the use of guided inquiry strategies.
  • Maintain literacy as a high priority by providing experiences that stimulate reading and develop a desire to read view and listen for understanding and enjoyment amongst students.
  • Provide additional assistance to students with particular learning needs or abilities.

Information Provision to Students and Staff

  • Liaise with teachers to provide resources for the various curriculum areas and requirements of the Australian Curriculum.
  • Provide access to information resources through efficient and wellguided online resources suitable for the particular sub school and staff.
  • Provide training and assistance to students and staff in the effective use of these systems.
  • Assist staff and students in the selection of appropriate resources for their educational and recreational needs.
  • Identify and utilise external services to enhance the Schools library resources Online databases National Library and Public Library access and provide training and assistance in the use of these resources
  • Conduct training when required for staff and students in the use of particular resources and library facilities particularly at the beginning of the school year.
  • Interpret information systems and technologies for students and teachers in the context of curriculum programs.
  • Ensure equity of the use of resources through providing overdue notices to sub school staff students and their parents.
  • Promote and display new resources.
  • Promote recreational reading to students.
  • Foster industry involvement in order to stay abreast of industry standards relating to issues such as copyright software best practice etc.

Library Collection and Resource Development

  • In consultation with the Head of Sub School and the Information Services Coordinator develop policies procedures and criteria for selecting school resources that meet curriculum information and recreational needs.
  • Develop and maintain a relevant wellbalanced resource collection suitable for school students
  • Manage the budget for school library resources.
  • Maintain the collection through selection processing and organising of resources as well as weeding and stocktaking.
  • Maintain and develop the ebook collection and maintain the ereaders
  • In consultation with staff maintain a collection of professional resources to aid teaching and learning.
  • Maintain a professional interest and knowledge of young children and young adult literature and reading trends.

Library Environment

  • Foster a safe welcoming and stimulating library environment.
  • Ensure that the library provides areas suitable for quiet study collaborative inquiry and teaching and learning.
  • Ensure that the students behave appropriately in a shared library resource area.
  • Ensure the library collection and resources are readily accessible to all staff and students.
  • Develop displays and activities to promote the librarys services and collections.
  • Ensure the efficient maintenance of the resources and equipment in the school library.
  • Liaise and cooperate with teacher librarians from Senior Junior and Early Childhood subschools to provide whole school services events and programs when necessary.

Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain an appropriate level of professional development.
  • Undertake library lunch duty.
  • Participate in the schools cocurricular program.
  • Attend school camps and excursions when required.
  • Other duties as required.

Selection criteria

  • A relevant teaching degree and librarianship qualifications.
  • A passion for effective teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with classroom teachers to enhance the quality of the learning and teaching programs.
  • An interest in working with young people.
  • The ability to differentiate the teaching program to address students learning styles and varied academic needs.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to participate in curriculum development and professional development
  • Experience in the meaningful integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into the curriculum.
  • Experience in teaching students with special learning needs.
