The Opportunity:

We are hiring a Senior NonLife Treaty Underwriter for our reinsurance business with primary responsibility for the leadership and development of our P&C portfolio in the DACH region amongst others.

We are looking for experienced candidates who are fluent German speakers have a strong profile/track record in these markets are well networked with key stakeholders and have previous portfolio management experience over a minimum period of 5 years.

This is an exciting opportunity offered at a time when QBE Re is expanding its global footprint and diversifying its portfolio mix.

We are open to discuss the location of hire and could accommodate the right candidate in Germany Brussels or Dublin.

Your New Role:

  • Support the development of the annual business plan for the portfolio and ensure delivery of the plan

  • Ensure the teams awareness of the business plan and its context to be able to make decisions appropriately

  • Contribute and participate in all meetings in order to share and develop strategy knowledge and best practice

  • Positively promote the department division and company as a whole to maximize brand leverage

  • Perform complex underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met

  • Adhere to underwriting standards instructions and good practice to minimize risk and maximize efficiency

  • Act as a technical expert to support the identification of issues and opportunities within area of expertise

  • Establish and strengthen strong relationships with stakeholders including customers brokers business partners and colleagues to maximize influence and achieve business objectives

  • Demonstrate understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycle to drive and enhance business performance

  • Continually develop expertise and technical knowledge through identifying and implementing appropriate learning and development activities

  • Underwrite treaty risks in accordance with the business plan and the personal authority to meet business objectives including: negotiating rates terms and conditions for existing and new business Compliance of production and issue of contract certainty documentation ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations and guidelines ensuring contribution to the business plan and objectives Support credit control in payment collection

  • Contribute and influence in the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress toward business objectives

  • Ensure entries are properly and promptly recorded on EO systems to ensure accuracy of data in relation to: Underwriting Aggregate exposures

  • Contribute to the aggregate management and peer review processes to encourage and develop excellence

  • Manage resources across the team to ensure business requirements are achieved

  • Motivate and develop the team by demonstrating good leadership behaviours and management best practice to support the achievement of business goals

  • Manage performance fairly and in line with performance processes

About you:

  • Demonstrable experience in the reinsurance industry and extensive knowledge of Property and Casualty lines of business.

  • Ability to prioritize achieve targets and agreed deadlines.

  • Strong technical expertise in NonLife Treaty Reinsurance with ability to negotiate complex treaty structures

  • Stakeholder management at all levels

  • Strong interpersonal negotiating and communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • People management ability to engage and lead a team

  • German and English language skills working proficiency
