Job Description

Alternative Education Teacherfor theSchool Year

Job Title: Alternative Education Teacher

Reports to: Director of Alternative Education

Location: Alternative Education

Job Summary:

This is a fulltime 190day licensed teaching position. The Alternative Education Teacher is responsible for supporting students enrolled in the districts 612 online learning program which is primarily delivered through the Edgenuity platform. This position serves as both an academic advisor and case manager working directly with students and families to monitor progress improve engagement and implement studentspecific success plans. The Alternative Education Teacher ensures students have access to the necessary supports to meet graduation requirements through regular communication timely interventions and personalized outreach.

This position is part of the Alternative Programs department and operates with a flexible schedule to meet student and family needs as agreed upon with the Director of Alternative Education.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Student Support and Progress Monitoring:
  • Monitor and assess student academic progress within the online learning platform (Edgenuity) to ensure alignment with graduation requirements.

  • Provide targeted academic support and interventions based on student progress data.

  • Coordinate and conduct regular checkins (inperson virtual or phone) with students and families.

  • Support students in setting personal goals and following through with daily weekly and longterm plans.

  1. Case Management and Communication:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned caseload of students.

  • Maintain accurate uptodate records of communication interventions and academic performance.

  • Communicate consistently with families to provide updates encourage engagement and offer assistance.

  • Collaborate with counselors special education staff and other service providers as needed.

  1. Attendance and Reporting:
  • Track and report student attendance in accordance with district and state guidelines.

  • Input and maintain grade records and progress in the districts Synergy system.

  • Alert appropriate staff to concerns about attendance progress or student wellbeing.

  1. Individualized Student Success Planning:
  • Work collaboratively with students to develop and monitor Student Success Plans tailored to individual needs.

  • Identify barriers to student success and coordinate support strategies.

  • Implement behavioral motivational or academic strategies based on student profiles.

  1. Program Coordination and Flexibility:
  • Work collaboratively with the Alternative Education Director to align student services with program goals.

  • Adjust schedule to accommodate student and family availability including occasional evenings.

  • Participate in team meetings professional development and studentfocused planning.

  1. Other Duties as Assigned:
  • Support additional Alternative Programs initiatives as needed.

  • Contribute to program improvement through feedback and innovation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Properly endorsed Oregon Teaching License with endorsements appropriate for grades 612.
  • Experience working in online alternative or nontraditional educational settings preferred.
  • Proficient in educational technology including online platforms Google Suite and student information systems (Synergy preferred).
  • Knowledge of credit recovery graduation requirements and secondarylevel instruction.
  • Ability to build rapport and maintain engagement with students and families.
  • Familiarity with Edgenuity or similar online learning platforms.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency implementing and adapting educational interventions
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk sit stand use hands for fine manipulation handle or feel and reach with hands and arms and use a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stoop kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The work environments combine a standard office setting including standard office equipment and applications (fax copier phone computer Outlook Google Suite Excel etc. in a standard school setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate and occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and/or physically and emotionally dysregulated students.
