PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Transportation Coordinator assumes the duties and responsibilities in assisting the Director in relation to supervising and training personnel as well as dispatching routing and scheduling buses. Also assists the Director in managing the overall operation of the Transportation Department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification Requirements
- Bachelors degree preferred
- Possess current Texas Commercial Drivers License (Class B)
- Current Texas School Bus Driver Certification and/or enrolled in next available course offered by Region 20 Service Center
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Nonrefundable fee (approximately $50.00 paid by the employee.
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Experience in training and in management or supervision and knowledge of transportation (preferred)
- Technology proficient
- Proven skills in leadership management and team building
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience
- Minimum of five 5 years of experience in public school transportation preferred
- Experience as a certified bus driver
- Experience in the field of fleet management
- Experience and ability to supervise personnel
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

- Develop a timely and efficient bus schedule which allows students to be transported to and from school in a manner which supports the districts mission
- Coordinate with District personnel the use of Transportation Department vehicles to transport students to special education functions
- Assist in recommending all Transportation Department employees for hire transfer and promotion
- Develop training manuals and maintenance training records for all Transportation Department drivers
- Communicating and promoting high expectations for staff and employee performance in a supportive way and provides proper recognition of excellence and achievement
- Assess bus routes and other transportation functions to ensure that maximum safety service etc. are being attained makes adjustments when necessary if maximum potential is not being reached
- Define job performance expectations of staff evaluate job performance conduct conferences and/or improvement plans to ensure the best operation of the Department
- Assist in preparing an annual budget for the Transportation Department
- Monitor the use maintenance and replacement of capital equipment
- Receive and file current enrollment reports (by geographic area)
- Assist in preparing and submitting all reports required by the District Board of Trustees and/or the Texas Education Agency
- Review and authorize purchase requisitions for the Transportation Department
- Develop procedures for extracurricular trips involving Transportation Department vehicles
- Ensure that all vehicles in the Transportation Department are adequately maintained
- Establish guidelines for assigning drivers to extracurricular trips
- Oversee the preventive maintenance schedule for District vehicles
- Ensure that data is maintained in relation to gasoline/propane expenditures per vehicle
- Accept responsibilities for registering licensing and maintaining a maintenance log for all District vehicles
- Keep abreast of current specifications required by the State regarding school buses
- Provide the Purchasing Department with bid specifications when attaining new buses
- Safeguard the transportation inventory and follows appropriate accounting procedures
- Coordinate the rental of charter buses and other vehicles used in field trips for district groups
- Maintain records of students participating in District Transportation process
- Ensure that bus drivers are familiar with procedures in dealing with misconduct/conflicts
- Participate in relevant professional growth experiences which expand knowledge of operating the department
- Maintain records on employees which track needs and initiates activities which address such needs
- Demonstrate awareness of school/community needs and initiates activities which address such needs
- Respond in a positive and professional manner to parents who have problems or express concerns
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Ensure compliance with the Texas Educators Code of Ethics
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Assists Director of supervision of transportation personnel. Supervision of students is required.

Environmental Factors:
