Job Description

Athletic Trainer for USD #480



Reports to: Activities Director(s) Medical Supervisor(s) Building Administration

Job Goal:To provide a safe training environment for athletes to limit the extent of preventable injuries and to be prepared to deal with any injury or illness until appropriate medical personnel arrive

Position Title: Certified Athletic Trainer

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree or higher in an area relating to the athletic training profession

Certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)

Licensed by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts (KSBHA)

Maintains Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for NATABOC Certification and KSBHA License

Maintains certification in First Aid and CPR with AED Professional Rescuer equivalent

Performance Responsibilities

  1. Develop administer and manage a healthcare facility including record keeping supply inventory and facility maintenance.
  2. Meet weekly with Activities Director to organize and communicate responsibilities
  3. Work directly with coaches and athletes with health maintenance and prescribed therapeutic regimens.
  4. Tape and wrap students before practice and game competitions.
  5. Work with athletes and assist coaches of all sports with first aid treatment rehabilitation and education of athletic injuries
  6. Maintain a clean clinical environment
  7. Attend all varsity home sporting events including sub varsity football contests. Assist when needed at home sub varsity baseball cross country soccer softball tennis track and wrestling events at the high school
  8. Recognize and evaluate athletic injuries
  9. Administer the proper emergency care and in making prompt appropriate medical referrals.
  10. Initiate a treatment regimen under the direction of the team physician or the athletes personal physician.
  11. Teach assigned classes throughout the school day.

Physical demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands/fingers to handle objects tools or controls and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit climb or balance; and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. Employee must have sufficient endurance to sustain the physical demands of the job.

The employee must frequently be able to generate the force to maneuver up to 100 pounds. Assistance with lifting patients will be provided. Employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist and 1015 pounds from waist to overhead with safe body mechanics. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee may work near moving mechanical parts
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • There is possible exposure to airborne blood borne and fluid borne pathogens
  • The athletic trainer may be required to work in a space without windows.

Attend all varsity football games

Attend all home freshmen/junior varsity football games

Attend all home varsity basketball games

Attend substate and regional competitions held in Liberal

Attend all home varsity baseball cross country soccer softball track volleyball and wrestling events and assist when needed in sub varsity contests.

Attend road events where an athletic trainer may be needed for competition.

The role of the certified/licensed athletic trainer is to provide the most cost effective and comprehensive means of prevention assessment treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries incurred during participation of USD #480 athletic programs designated by the Activities Director(s). In addition the ATC understands the professional responsibility to provide educational programs to the athletes coaches athletic training student aides administrators and community members interested in the benefit in the physical fitness the importance of First Aid and CPR with AED training and the pursuit of further medical information.
