Job Description

SUMMARY:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in sport assigned. Contribute to education program as a whole and to growth of students involved in athletics.

  • Provide program support and service delivery; communicate effectively within and across teams and participate in crossfunctional work groups.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Instructional Strategies

  • Develop and implement lesson plans for inperson learning that fulfill the requirements of Districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Board policies and Administrative Regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with Special Education Teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of the staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to District requirements.
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.

Athletic (Sport Assigned) Program Management

  • Support the established performance criteria for competition and manage sport activities contests and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills teamwork and good sportsmanship.
  • Model performance criteria and perform physical movements required for successful student performance of sport.
  • Support an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development including the time resources and materials to support accomplishment of department goals.
  • Support the established physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport and verify each athletes eligibility.
  • Use a variety of instructional and coaching techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the assigned sport.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes equipment materials and facilities.
  • Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletics.

Student Management and Organization

  • Implement the policies established by federal law state law State Board of Education rule University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules and local board policy in area of athletics.
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Implement District student management policies communicate expected student behavior related to athletics and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Accompany and supervise student athletes during games both athome and on outoftown trips.
  • Instruct and advise students on National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.

Communication

  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open lines of communication on vital issues with parents students colleagues and community members.

Community Relations

  • Articulate the Districts mission and goals in the area of athletics to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of District and community needs initiate activities to meet those needs and use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Support athletic booster club activities.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve jobrelated skills.
  • Comply with State District and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Other

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compile maintain file and secure all physical and computerized reports records and other required documents.
  • Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
  • Comply with all policies operating procedures legal requirements and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited university

  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in subject assigned and

  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate in English as a Second Language Required for all Core Subject Teachers

  • Current first aid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate

  • Clear and valid Texas commercial drivers license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (preferred)

  • CTE Teachers: Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)

Experience:

  • Three 3 years coaching experience at the 5A 6A level
  • Ability to develop implement and maintain a highly competitive program
  • Successful classroom teaching experience

SPECIAL KNOWLEGDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program
  • Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of federal state and UIL policies governing athletics
  • Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Excellent public relations organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of core academic subjects
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical (include if bus driving duties are required)

MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  • Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

  • Frequent walking; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists
  • Frequent physical movements associated with sport; moderate grasping/squeezing wrist flexion/extension and reaching

Lifting:

  • Frequently light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting and carrying 1544 pounds)

Environment:

  • Work inside outside (exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather)
  • Work to be completed onsite from assigned school or building
  • Regular exposure to noise and computer monitors
  • No remote work
  • Frequent districtwide and statewide travel

Mental Demands:

  • Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress work; prolonged or irregular hours
