This is a fulltime permanent position based in Charlottetown.
Your role
CBC P.E.I. is looking for a video journalist to join our team.
Youre innovative and will try new things new workflows and new story treatments that are informative and shareable.
You help our audience make sense of the day. You are flexible and adaptable to the rapidly changing media landscape. You will help guide our video strategy which places a strong emphasis on using video to reach and engage younger audiences.
This job is part of our daily news gathering operation. We are looking for someone with the ability to work collaboratively in a newsroom offering ideas and suggestions to enhance news coverage across all platforms. You are a team player.
This job is for you if you thrive under pressure believe strongly in accountability journalism and have a proven track record of digging up information and telling original and visually compelling stories.
Local news and community storytelling is more important than ever. You will understand our rapidly changing population and the importance of reflecting all of our communities in our content. You will be a champion for innovative visual storytelling content advocating for the creative use of video still images and graphics and other visual storytelling techniques.
Key Tasks:
Pitch original story ideas and original video treatments.
Gather information from various sources.
Arrange and conduct interviews.
Plan edit and deliver video with a focus on live and ondemand video.
Understand the key needs of shooting video.
Edit recorded items on appropriate/available editing systems.
Work with newsroom leadership to develop clear video strategy and workflows.
Qualifications
You possess:
Highlevel knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
Familiarity and understanding of what videos work for our audience and why.
Ability to generate original story ideas.
Ideas about how to make video content engaging and informative to a P.E.I. audience.
Graduation from University or Community College in a relevant course of study or equivalent industry experience.
Demonstrated professional experience using various news platforms including digital social radio and television.
Substantial experience vetting editing factchecking and packaging video content in compelling and innovative ways.
Substantial experience shooting and editing video.
Thrives in an innovative and creative environment. You are comfortable with change and uncertainty.
Knowledge of and connection to equitydeserving communities across Prince Edward Island.
Commitment to including all equitydeserving groups in our storytelling.
Demonstrates the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
Comfortable and dynamic onair presence.
Ability to thrive under deadline.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
Flexibility in hours including evenings and on weekends and ability to work unscheduled overtime.
Valid drivers license.

While P.E.I. may have a small population base CBC P.E.I. has a large reach. In addition to our significant profile on digital offerings we produce Island Morning 6 8.30am) and Mainstreet 46pm) on radio our nightly television supper hour program Compass at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. and a 24 hour streaming channel as well as content that reaches regional and national audiences. The successful candidate will be joining a versatile team of journalists who ensure we serve our audience and tell the stories that matter to the community.
