Pay Range: $52300 to $54700 annualized
Summary: Responsible of the Disabilities and Mental Health Components according to the Head Start Performance Standards. Responsible to provide training for all Head Start personnel develop program guidelines and provide educational resources for parents. Responsibilities include establishing and maintaining a communication and reporting system for purposes of monitoring evaluating and improving these components of the Head Start Program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provides training and technical assistance to Education staff regarding childrens development and special needs and ensures appropriate implementation of strategies and interventions in the classroom for children with suspected or diagnosed disabilities including children receiving Tier Services and children with an LEA IEP.
Identifies children who may have a disability assuring appropriate intervention and services and for managing implementing and evaluating comprehensive programs for children with disabilities and their families enrolled in Head Start Program
Develops and administers programming reporting and assessment systems to assist Head Start centers in meeting performance standards;
Manages the Mental Health component in conjunction with the Mental Health Specialist;
Develops program initiatives and processes in conjunction with Center Services Coordinator case managers parents and other center staff and in accordance with established policies and procedures;
Makes sure that the agreement with mental health consultant is followed by provider and staff.
Work directly with Mental Health Specialist planning schedule for classroom observations and services including documentation staff training activity plan community mental health resources and referrals.
Plans and implements training for parents and others involved in the Head Start Program;
In Conjunction with Center Services Coordinator evaluates progress to ensure that component goals and objectives are monitored and achieved;
Identify and recruits those children who may have special needs and makes sure that these children and their families get the services and support that they need.
Assures that all necessary accommodations and adaptations are made including but not limited to transportation translation and facilitys remodeling.
Develops equipment and materials purchasing plan according to program needs;
Works closely with the rest of the agencys staff to plan integrated services for all children: plans awareness activities for children with Education Specialist; coordinates with Family Support Workers the recruitment of children with disabilities; participates with Health Services Support Worker in the development of special environmental and safety procedures; and ensures the participation of disabilities service providers
Transitions children with disabilities and those in the diagnostic process to their next destination ensuring a smooth and efficient process with full parental participation.
Plans and conducts regular meetings and/or conferences including: Individual staff supervision meetings Center staff meetings and Parent conferences with the family workers and/or mental health/disabilities component as needed.
Follows and implements CAHSD policies procedures and systems ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and federal and state laws.
Ensures strict child and family confidentiality following the grantee and agency Confidentiality Procedure.
Attends and participates in administrative meetings as needed. Attends all CAHSD. Required meetings and properly share all information with the site staff.
Coordinates services with the family worker on site including: review observation of work hours; review home visits; review meeting and inservice attendance/information; review due dates/followup documentation.
Education/Experience:
Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education Special Education Childhood Development or relevant field; or Bachelors Degree and one 1 to two 2 years experience in a Head Start setting with disabilities component. Demonstrated understanding of Head Start philosophy and the current principles of inclusion natural environments and services to children with disabilities and their families. A minimum of one year experience working with infants toddlers or preschoolers with disabilities and their families. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices diagnostic tests screening tools and assessments
Language Ability:
Ability to read analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information.
Math Ability:
Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully an individual should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications to include Word Excel and PowerPoint.
Certificates and Licenses:
Red Cross First Aid Certificate.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages and coordinates programs in Centers. Supervises mental health and disabilities.
