Job Description: Exceptional Childrens Teacher (Resource/Coteacher)
The Exceptional Childrens Teacher will provide special education services to students identified as disabled. This work involves developing and implementing the Individual Education Program in classroom settings that are compatible with the students age and developmental level. The EC teacher is responsible for developing lesson plans adapting materials creating IEPs and designing activities to assist EC students to develop appropriate academic behavioral and social skills in order to meet their IEP goals. The teacher is responsible for monitoring student progress and for maintaining EC records in compliance with state and federal guidelines. The EC teacher is involved with the Child Find process for referral evaluation and identification of students suspected of having a disability.
Reports to: Building Principal and Exceptional Children Director
Duties and responsibilities:
- Develops and implements daily lesson plans which are compatible with the school and schoolwide curricular goals and the students individual education program.
- Responsible for the development of the individual education programs (IEP) implements progress monitoring of data and uses diagnostic information obtained from tests to update IEPs as needed.
- Provides direct speciallydesigned instruction to identified students on their assigned caseload including the use of assistive technology.
- Uses a variety of techniques and teaching methods to meet student needs: implementation of these methods may require the adaptation or development of standard course of study materials.
- Monitors student behavior maintains discipline in the classroom deescalates inappropriate behaviors designs creates and maintains a behavior chart a BIP and has the ability to evaluate a student using a Functional Behavior Assessment.
- Communicate with parents regarding their childrens educational progress via periodic written progress reports or frequency stated on the IEP.
- Creates maintains and annually updates exceptional childrens records in ECATS and on paper in accordance with North Carolina procedures governing programs and services for children with disabilities and complies with all regulatory requirements.
- Maintains Exceptional Children files in the prescribed Voyager Academy file order
- Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner interacting effectively with students coworkers parents and the community.
- Advocates for students with disabilities and ensures classroom and testing accommodations are implemented.
- Maintain confidentiality in oral or written documents according to FERPA regulations.
- Arrange and facilitate IEP meetings and communicate with colleagues and parents and other professionals
Qualifications and Skills Desired:
- NC Teaching License in Special Education
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Collaborative team oriented individual and selfstarter
- Knowledge of ECATS system
