Job Description

Description:

An aircraft manufacturer is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to play a key role within the Prismatic (Complex Milling) Manufacturing Group based in East Aurora NY. This position is primarily focused on developing manufacturing processes for new and developmental products while also driving continuous improvement initiatives for existing or mature production lines.

In this role youll be responsible for leading and delivering results on complex nonroutine manufacturing engineering tasks by applying both established practices and innovative problemsolving approaches. While your core focus will be on operations in East Aurora you will also contribute support to the companys other global aircraft manufacturing sites as needed.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsabilities:

  • Research and implement innovative and advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance production process development.
  • Lead efforts to integrate Design for Manufacturing principles across multiple engineering teams for both new and existing product lines.
  • Define manufacturing workflows sequence of operations and prepare tooling and inspection equipment lists; develop and validate N/C programs; and write detailed operational procedures and work instructions for machining complex milled components and subassemblies.
  • Take an active handson role in driving continuous improvement initiatives within current production processes.
  • Establish track and update labor standards for setup and cycle times machinetooperator ratios and optimal production quantities throughout each process step.
  • Generate accurate cost estimates to support new business opportunities and ongoing process optimization projects.
  • Lead efforts in evaluating justifying purchasing and implementing new manufacturing equipment and technology.
  • Collaborate daily with crossfunctional teams including engineers technicians production staff quality teams and external vendors to troubleshoot manufacturing challenges and mentor junior team members.
  • Balance time between onthefloor engagement and officebased responsibilities; frequently perform machine program test runs alongside shop personnel.
  • Take on leadership responsibilities for assigned projects as delegated by the Group Lead or Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
  • Provide technical support for automated manufacturing cells focusing on process consistency labor reduction and minimizing variability due to human factors. Often responsible for a dedicated manufacturing cell.
  • Be available for occasional travel both domestic and international (approximately 5 of the year or around two weeks annually).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Manufacturing Mechanical Industrial Engineering or a related technical field.
    • Significant manufacturing engineering experience may be considered in place of a formal degree if it demonstrates equivalent knowledge and capability.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering focused on milled parts with a track record of increasing responsibility.
  • Minimum of 5 years of practical handson experience in machining operations.
  • Proficient in CAD/CAM programming for CNC milling; experience with Siemens NX is preferred. Must be comfortable with Gcode and Mcode programming.
  • Indepth understanding of cutting tools and fixturing including the ability to select and design both. Experience with quickchange and automated tooling systems is a plus.
  • Strong grasp of manufacturing methods for generating efficient CNC programs particularly for complex milled components.
  • Innovative and proactive mindset with a drive to modernize current manufacturing practices especially in support of automation initiatives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities to collaborate effectively across teams and departments.
  • Capable of mentoring and providing direction to other manufacturing engineers.
  • Background in developing automated or advanced manufacturing systems is highly desirable.
  • Familiar with Lean principles and experienced in leading efforts toward a Lean production environment and standardized work processes. (Lean certification is a plus.
  • Skilled at managing multiple projects at once; experience using MS Project is an advantage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Word Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Wellversed in interpreting technical drawings and applying GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Must have experience programming 5axis machining centers. Familiarity with machines such as Okuma MU4000V MU5000V MU8000V or Mazak I600 is a plus.
  • Experienced in machining a diverse range of aerospace materials including aluminum titanium stainless steel and others for complex milled components.
