The SpeechLanguage Pathology Assistant (SLPA) works directly under the supervision of a licensed SLP aiding them in their daily responsibilities. The SLPA will perform tasks delegated by the supervising SLP such as assisting in hearing screenings and checking equipment. The SLPA is permitted to follow documented treatment plans created by licensed SLPs and to informally document a patients performance.
Prohibited tasks of the SLPA include signing of formal documents performing diagnostic tests participating in conferences of any type and creating treatment plans without the supervision of a licensed SLP.
Job Duties/Knowledge:
- Implements an individualized therapeutic program designed to restore and/or improve communicative activities of daily living under the supervision of a licensed SLP.
- Coordinates and collaborates with the Administrator supervising SLP ordesignated professional to ensure therapeutic plan of care is met and continued.
- Guides and teaches the patient in techniques exercises or precautions designed to improve the patients ability to communicate under the supervision of a licensed SLP
- Instructs other agency personnel and patient family members in activities of speech therapy so that they may safely and effectively assist the patient under the supervision of a licensed SLP.
- Observes records and reports the patients reaction to treatment and any changes in the patients condition or treatment. Documents the extent of the patients involvement in the decisions affecting his/her care under the supervision of a licensed SLP.
- Participates in patient case conferences to coordinate the patients plan of care and promote a positive therapeutic outcome under the supervision of a licensed SLP.
- Participates and meets deadlines as required in continuous assessment and evaluation of the agency via Quarterly Record Review or the Quality Assurance/Improvement Program.
- Checks and responds to messages texts and or emails within 24 hours
- Maintain code of ethics set by the American Speech Language Hearing Association
Required Experience:
