Job Description
Base Salary: $247417 $267986 per annum total salary package (inclusive of clinical loading and 17 Superannuation)
Employment Terms: This is a fulltime continuing position with the University of Newcastle. The successful applicant may be offered secondary employment as a Clinical Academic with the CCLHD in addition to their primary employment with the University for which remuneration will be in accordance with the Clinical Academics Employed in the NSW Health Service Policy Directive.

The position
As the Associate Professor of Psychiatry you will make a significant contribution to all activities of the School of Medicine and Public Health within the discipline.
In collaboration with the Central Coast Local Health District in this role you will:
- provide leadership in clinical service research and teaching in mental health with dedicated clinical contribution in this area
- lead the development of mental health research strategy for the CCLHD as an active member of the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute
- contribute to leadership and the development of innovative models of mental health care across the CCLHD
- collaborate with academic educators research groups and clinical colleagues at other University sites Joint Medical Program (JMP) teaching campuses including the Hunter Clinical School the University of Newcastle Department of Rural Health and the University of New England
- build clinical academic leadership in mental health within the CCLHD
- provide leadership in Research and Innovation to Central Coast Mental Health
About you
To be successful in this role you will:
- Hold Fellowship of the Royal Australasian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) or international equivalent.
- Be eligible for registration as a Specialist Psychiatrist with AHPRA.
- Hold a Postgraduate degree (PhD).
- Have a proven research track record in generating quality research outcomes that complement existing research fields in the School of Medicine and Public Health including evidence of research impact publishing in quality journals supervising honours and higher degree research students and securing successful grant funding.
- Demonstrate academic leadership in your area of expertise.
- Create and deliver innovative and engaging curriculum that meets accreditation standards while futureproofing the skill set of medical graduates.
- Develop strategic linkages with the RANZCP and the broader community in the area of psychiatry.
The ideal candidate will specialise in one of the following areas aligning with the needs of the local health district:
- Consultation liaison psychiatry
- Older persons mental health
- Eating Disorders

This position will be based at the Central Coast Clinical School located on the grounds of the Gosford Hospital The Central Coast Local Health District has 2 acute hospitals (Gosford and Wyong) 1 subacute facility (Woy Woy) and an Urgent Care Centre at Long Jetty. Both Gosford and Wyong Hospitalshas recently undergone a major upgrade including newly established Safe Haven facilities at both sites. The Gosford precinct houses thethe stateoftheart research and education facility in which the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute is located.
