GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Principal or another designated administrator the Career Development Teacher develops and implements an instructional program that will effectively meet the needs of all students. The Career Development Teacher assesses and evaluates student performance and modifies instructional activities as appropriate.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support Student Learning
- Practice and promote positive interaction with and among students by demonstrating enthusiasm for learning and maintaining interest in students.
- Encourage selfdirection and selfmotivation in students.
- Adapt and adjust instructional presentation of subject content to students needs and interests.
- Maintain and organized program of instruction based on effective longrange plans with evidence of effective lesson planning.
- Utilize a variety of appropriate materials and resources.
- Communicate the lesson objective and its importance to students.
- Utilize appropriate and varied teaching techniques and leaning activities both in class and out of class.
- Maintain an effective system of monitoring student progress and to inform appropriate persons of such progress.
School Building Responsibilities
- Complete required reports promptly and accurately.
- Accept responsibilities outside the classroom as they relate to the school.
- Assume responsibility for a neat safe environment for students committed to the teachers care.
PositionSpecific Responsibilities
- Make home visits to each child weekly on a flexible schedule when parents are available as assigned by the program and as needed by the families.
- Plan coordinate with community agencies and guest speakers and provide twice a month group socialization experiences for homebased families that meet individual childrens developmental needs.
- Complete all required screenings and assessments within prescribed timelines.
- Serve as Family Service Worker to families of assigned students. Work with families to develop annual goals. Provide appropriate resources for family needs and follow up with appropriateness timeliness and quality of services received. Document all referrals and services received.
- Report safety issues or suspected child abuse immediately to the Health Coordinator and/or Supervisor of Head Start.
- Write and implement home visit activities for parents to do with their children that develop all areas of the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: cognition approaches to learning social and emotional development language and literacy perceptual motor and physical development and promoting health and nutrition implementing the programs curriculum with fidelity. Provide appropriate parenting information and practice activities for parents to implement appropriate techniques. Use resources in the home when possible and provide loaned materials as needed.
- Document communication with parents and encourage parents to participate. Give parents suggestions for activities to assist their child at home. Use appropriate parent suggestions for developmental activities.
- Document weekly conferences with each students parent. Inform parents of the results of each screening and assessment.
- Attend Preservice InService and all staff meetings.
- Assist with evening and weekend special events including the Family Thanksgiving Dinner the Winter Music Program the Parents as Educational Partners Auction the Family Picnic evening Parent Center Committee meetings and the monthly Mens Events.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associates degree Bachelors degree or education related to specific subject area to which assigned.
- Currently enrolled in an education program at an accredited college/university and be within one 1 year of completing the program.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work environment is inside a classroom but could include outside activities with moderate noise temperatures that are controlled but can be subject to outside temperatures and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
- The work is light work requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
