General Summary
Deliver occupational therapy services through evaluation of patient needs goal determination and development of treatment plans according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
- Performs direct occupational therapy services to patients in accordance with generally accepted occupational therapy standards Maryland State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice code of ethics and departmental policies and procedures.
- Records patient evaluations reevaluations and care provided in the medical record in accordance with departmental documentation standards.
- Participates in performance improvement activities and suggests areas for improvement to colleagues in a tactful and considerate manner. Proposes performance improvement topics and alternate treatment techniques to improve occupational therapy services.
- Assumes responsibility to resolve or report clinical and operational issues to department leadership for resolution in order to assure high quality care and efficient departmental operations.
- Demonstrates interdisciplinary safe patientcentered care and delivers excellent customer service.
- Works closely with hand surgeons and treats multiple hand injuries.
Qualifications :
Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree required; Masters Degree preferred.
- Current licensed Occupational Therapist in the state of Maryland is required.
- One 1 year of related experience preferred.
- Current ACLS or BCLS certification is required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice techniques. General knowledge of orthopedics plastics pediatrics neurology psychology psychiatry anatomy physiology kinesiology general medicine and the occupational therapy treatment implications of each.
- Knowledge of Rehabilitation equipment such as work simulator fluid therapy paraffin bath hydroculator and other therapeutic equipment is required.
- Working knowledge of Psychiatry such as current Diagnostic Statistical Manual diagnoses and the ability to work independently as well as lead and colead group treatment is required.
- Ability to read write and speak English in order to follow and give instructions accurately.
- Ability to learn and practice positive guest relations skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are required in order to work with patients and other therapy personnel effectively.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient populations(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patients requirements relative to his or her populationspecific and age specific needs.
Patient Safety
Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital department or unit patient safety initiatives.
- Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
- Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
- Identifies possible risks in processes procedures devices and communicates the same to those in charge.
