POSITION SUMMARY
Seabird Island Band is providing an opportunity for a Targeted Wage Subsidy Communications Assistant. Responsibilities may include answering phones booking appointments for clients file management organizing and other clerical duties. This position will also require the successful applicant to be able to provide exceptional client and customer service; courteous friendly and professional assistance to clients from a broad demographic.
Eligibility requirements:
- Must be Aboriginal status/nonstatus on/off reserve who resides within the SASET catchment area.
- Must be 18 years of age or older (not currently in school)
- Long term unemployed 3 months or more)
- No longer required by law to attend school
- Participant may have marketable skills but lack work experience in area in which the work experience and/or training will occur
- Not be receiving other Service Canada supports funding
- All Service Canada Personal Information Forms (PIFS) and Client Consent Forms (CCs) must be submitted prior to commencement of program.
This is a term contract position with an end date of March 31st 2026.

WHAT YOULL DO
- Front line customer service screening visitors answering questions and asking questions of visitors to properly direct them to the right team member.
- Tracks the Communications Supervisors schedule and availability.
- Coordinates administrative processes information forms etc.
- Assist visitors in the preparation of Work Orders for submitting their jobs.
- Provide staff orientation to all Seabird staff around the Communications services and capabilities offered
- Schedule and coordinate meetings/appointments for the team as directed by the Supervisor.
- Transcribing recordings.
- Complete monthly inventory.
- Data Input / Tracking/Charting in Excel.
- Print Production: printing and copying.
- Inhouse Print Servicing: loading paper change toner take care of paper jams.
- Finishing & Binding: laminating cerlox binding paper cutting collating & more.
- Distribution of finished products to staff.
- Distributing newsletters to distribution points and prepare mailout for the newsletter.
- Tidyup dust and sweep the entire Communications office as required.
- Filing both digital and paper versions.
- Scanning and saving of documents & photos.
- Assist with photos: for events staff ID and more.
- Proofread and review Newsletters and more ensuring everything meets quality and consistency standards.
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Supervisor Manager Director or the ED
WHAT YOU BRING
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
Skills/Experience
- Working knowledge of office equipment: Computer printers and more.
- Advanced typing skills an asset.
- Excellent time management skills taking initiative.
- Attention to detail and problemsolving skills.
- Able to interact with visitors strangers and staff screening clients to understand what they want and how to get it.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Valid BC Drivers License considered an asset.
Requirements
- Ability to lift 25lbs (case of paper)
- Good computer skills with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint Teams.
- Proficient interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
- Ability to agree as well as adhere to Seabird Island Band Human Resources (HR) Finance and Information Technology (IT) Policies and Procedures etc.
- Knowledge respect and understanding of St: l culture traditions and language or willingness to learn.
- Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
