General Responsibilities

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides speech and language services in the areas of student assessment augmentative alternative communication devices direct therapy training and consultation to staff and families to support students to function to their highest possible level within the educational system. The Speech Language Pathologist participates as a member of an education team in the assessment and program evaluation for students.

Schedule: 1.0 FTE 180 days

Essential Functions/Other Functions

Essential Functions:

  1. Take direction from and collaborate with Assistant Director for Special Education from ESD112
  2. Inform principals teachers and other school personnel of speech language and/or hearing services
  3. Organize and conduct an identification program for communication disorders by utilizing screening criteria materials procedures and recordkeeping strategies
  4. Select and employ diagnostic procedures and develop guidelines for a comprehensive remediation program
  5. Select and implement therapy strategies for modifying communicative behavior of each student with a speech language
  6. Identify and define factors which determine the effectiveness of therapy
  7. Maintain uptodate cumulative speech and language therapy records
  8. Redefine goals and modify therapy strategies consistent with the individual education plan (IEP)
  9. Consult with parents educators and other professionals regarding needs of children/students to assure appropriate learning experiences
  10. Complete all required reports and records for compliance within statutory guidelines
  11. Provide technical assistance to Speech Language Pathology Assistant(s) when applicable
  12. Maintain confidentiality
  13. Participate in professional development activities as needed or assigned
  14. Other duties as assigned

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Hold or eligible to hold a Washington ESA speech language pathologist certificate
  2. Masters degree in speech or speech pathology
  3. Experience working with children with articulation and language disabilities
  4. Experience in the identification assessment programming and evaluation of children with language disabilities
  5. Washington State Department of Health SLP license
  6. Successful results of criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience in P12 education
  2. Experience working with Washington state and federal laws relating to children with disabilities
  3. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred


Working Conditions/Employment Requirements

Terms of Employment:

  1. 1.0 FTE 180 days
  2. Rate of Pay: $54001$101782 DOE
  3. Benefits: SEBB Medical/Dental/Vision/Life & Disability insurance WA State DRS
  4. PTO: 12 Sick Leave days /3 personal day/9 holidays (may be prorated per start date)
