An Automotive Finance and Insurance (F&I) Manager plays a key role at a car dealership acting as the bridge between the sales department and the financial institutions that provide vehicle financing. This position involves a mix of sales finance compliance and customer service. Heres a breakdown of the role:
Customer Financing:
Help customers secure vehicle loans or leases.
Review credit applications and match customers with suitable lenders.
Explain financing terms and monthly payment options clearly.
Insurance & Product Sales:
Offer and sell aftermarket products (e.g. extended warranties GAP insurance tire & wheel protection).
Ensure all products are clearly presented and explained.
Paperwork & Compliance:
Complete all required legal documents (contracts loan paperwork etc).
Ensure deals are compliant with state federal and dealership regulations.
Maintain accuracy and confidentiality of financial records.
Lender Relations:
Build and maintain relationships with banks and credit unions.
Negotiate rates and finance terms for customers.
Customer Service:
Walk customers through the financial side of their car purchase in a trustworthy professional manner.
Address concerns or objections related to financing or insurance products.
Strong understanding of automotive financing credit reports and lending procedures.
Excellent sales ability especially in sellingfinance and insurance products.
Detailoriented with knowledge of legal and compliance regulations (e.g. FTC TruthinLending).
Proficiency in dealership management systems (DMS) CRM tools and eContracting platforms.
Great interpersonal skills must be trustworthy persuasive and professional.
Typically 25 years in automotive finance or sales.
Basesalary commission.
High earning potential typically six figures for top performers since its tied to product sales and financing volume.
