Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Kentucky Certificate

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

  1. Apply the knowledge of principles and practices of modern public school special education to the needs of the district.
  2. Maintains at all times an orderly work atmosphere and keeps the Special Education Coordinator fully informed of the programs activities and problems.
  3. As a member of the multidisciplinary assessment team conducts comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for students referred due to learning or behavioral problems.
  4. Integrates and interprets data through an integrated psychoeducational evaluation reports on referred students.
  5. Interprets evaluation results to school personnel other concerned professionals parents and students.
  6. Makes recommendations on ways to assist a student referred or evaluation.
  7. Consults on special educational needs of mentally disabled children emotionally disturbed children and children with learning disabilities.
  8. Serves on the Admission and Release Committee.
  9. As a member of the School Based Admissions and Release Committee attends conferences to determine eligibility and programming for students with special needs.
  10. Assists with students who are at risk for educational and behavioral problems by developing interventions and screening for potential disabilities.
  11. Maintains professional relationships with personnel of community health and social welfare agencies in coordinating services and programs for children.
  12. Attends staff professional and interagency meetings.
  13. Assists with inservice training of school personnel and serves as a consultant for inservice meetings for parents and teacher.
  14. Provides consultation services to teachers in dealing with interventions for children with learning and/or behavioral problems.
  15. Confers with teachers and parents whenever necessary.
  16. Conducts individual group or facilitative therapy for children whose diagnosed problems would benefit from behavior modifications.
  17. Works with school counselors on providing social skills interventions.
  18. Serves as a behavior management specialist for special needs students.
  19. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of school psychology.
  20. Works with teachers and parents to ensure due process parental and child rights are adhered to and protected.
  21. Maintains current test and testing procedures and maintains an inventory of such documents.
  22. Serves as a resource person to school/district staff.
  23. Provides professional development for school/district staff.
  24. Always maintains the highest professional standards in personal conduct.
  25. Maintains prompt and regular attendance.
  26. Performs related duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Special Education or the Superintendent.
