Job Description

Job Goal:The Itinerant Lending Library Coordinator will oversee the Early Education and Cares Lending Library housed in the Somerville Early Education Department offices at the Capuano Early Childhood Center. The position requires travel within the city to pick up and drop off lending library materials to childcare centers in the Somerville Partnership for Young Children and public preschool classrooms.

The Itinerant Lending Library Coordinator Position is an outstanding opportunity for a motivated team player who would like to contribute talent and skills to the Somerville Early Childhood Department to support the implementation of a comprehensive integrated mixeddelivery early education system in Somerville ensuring success for all students entering kindergarten.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • One year of post high school education preferred
  • Drivers license and regular access to an automobile for travel tofrom multiple locations in Somerville
  • Experience working with children 35 years of age in school or centerbased settings
  • Flexible collaborative and active contributor to a positive and creative work environment.
  • Technological facility with Google documents Excel Word etc.
  • Possesses a desire to collaborate with others.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds
  • A second language besides English is helpful (especially Spanish Portuguese or Haitian Creole).

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a positive customer service attitude
  • Management of the curriculum librarys online systems
  • Maintaining adequate records regarding the use of materials and resources
  • Preparing materials for circulation
  • Scheduling of reservations
  • Collection and drop off curriculum materials via travel to multiple buildings
  • Cataloging damaged or lost items
  • Maintaining an accurate inventory
  • Periodically entering new books & materials into the collection
  • Attending trainings as required by the Director of Early Education and Care
  • All other duties as assigned

Terms of Employment:

  • Part Time
  • September July 40 weeks)
  • Up to 4 hours per week
  • Non Union

Reports to: Director of Early Education and Care
