Job Description
General Summary
Under the supervision of the Laboratory Director and Pathologist organizes supervises and directs testing or PreAnalytic functions in a specific laboratory section. This position requires practical as well as theoretical knowledge of test methodologies and full understanding of supervisory budgeting quality control quality assurance and inventory control concepts. This position also requires coordination and communication skills within the assigned departments as well as interaction with the medical and nursing staff to assist in the detection and management of disease and medical disorders. Patient contact and specimens from patients may include infants to adultgeriatric.

Reporting Relationships
Reports to Laboratory Director and Pathologists.
Qualifications :
- Core Laboratory Blood Bank Cytology Microbiology: Bachelors degree in clinical laboratory science medical technology or chemical physical or biological science and5years training/experience in high complexity testing in area of specialty.
- Histology: Associate (AA) or Bachelors (BA or BS) degree from an accredited Histotechnologists program OR completion of a certificate program or a NAACLS accredited histotechnician or histotechnologist training program with at least 7 years of comprehensive histology laboratory experience OR onthejob training with at least 7 years of comprehensive histology laboratory experience. Lab experience must be in a Histopathology Lab in the U.S. Canada or an accredited laboratory.
Working Conditions
Works inside a clean welllighted environment. May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations. May be verbally abused by patients. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals and fumes. Potential for regular exposure to communicable disease and hazardous materials requiring the observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices. The worker is subject to variations in room temperature. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting.
Physical Requirements
Standing sitting bending and walking is required 35 hours/shift. Involves lifting carrying pushing and pulling (up to 50 lbs. 03 hours/shift. Includes reaching for fingering grasping and handling equipment/supplies 35 hours/shift. Requires hearing/listening for telephone/communication. Visual acuity is necessary to read labels documents microscopic slides and for various instruments.
Must have manual dexterity for using keyboard and instrumentation. Color vision required for some laboratory procedures.
