Position Summary


Green River College is actively pursuing aHead Coach for Intercollegiate Mens and Womens Track and Field. Come be a part of a growing program.
This position will report to the Director of Athletics and Recreation in the department of Campus Life.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

Green River Colleges student body is made up of approximately 41 Academic Transfer students 34 ProfessionalTechnical students 15 Adult Basic Education student and 3 Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses including the main campus in Auburn Washington with satellite campuses in Kent downtown Auburn and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college) those seeking retraining for the workforce international students students learning English and Continuing Education students. Green Rivers service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse comprising African Americans African immigrants Asian Americans Asians Latinx Native Americans Pacific Islanders and Middle Eastern Americans among other communities.

Position Responsibilities

The Green River College mens and womens track and field coach will be responsible for all aspects of the track and field program including student recruitment scheduling team travel practice planning budget management selection and supervision of assistant coaches fundraising and administration of the mens and womens track and field program in compliance with the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) and Green River College rules and regulations.


Must be able to work and interact effectively with other coaches staff studentathletes the general student body and administrators.


Duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Recruit student athletes in accordance with NWAC athletic regulations conference and college values and commitment to student success
  • Coordinate Letters of Intent and scholarship awards. Work with athletic director to determine which athletes will receive letters of intent and the scholarship amount each is to receive within NWAC guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with eligibility regulations. Stay current on eligibility regulations; inform athletes of eligibility requirements
  • Assist students in achieving their educational goals which includes organizing and implementing team study hall
  • Help maintain a competitive program; direct assistant coaches; meet deadlines set forth by the NWAC; comply with NWAC regulations and support the NWAC and Green River College philosophy and mission
  • Transport studentathletes to team events and away contests; help with necessary travel arrangements
  • Develop fundraising strategies to help raise funds to support the program
  • Responsible for developing practice and meet schedules
  • Inventory and maintenance of all sports equipment and uniforms; must follow proper purchasing procedures as required by the State of Washington and described by the college business office
  • Serve as a role model to assist the team members in developing and displaying appropriate attitudes sportsmanship and behavior expected of athletic teams and individuals representing Green River College
  • Responsible for fostering an environment that provides a quality studentathlete experience
  • Supervising assistant coaches
  • Timely processing of appropriate institutional and conference paperwork and reports
  • Other duties as assigned responsible for the mens and womens track and field program as a whole

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience as a track and field coach
  • Associates degree
  • Availability to attend practices and games on weekday afternoons and evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrated understanding of intercollegiate track and field rules and regulations
  • Commitment to a philosophy of promoting student success
  • Availability to travel out of state as needed


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience coaching at the college level
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent

The desired candidate will also demonstrate:

  • Ability to contribute to the colleges commitment to diversity by fostering a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation
  • Productive and collaborative relationships with external and internal customers students and staff
  • Ethics integrity confidentiality and sound professional judgment


Conditions of Employment:
In order to operate the vehicles associated with team travel the successful candidate must meet the following conditions of employment:

  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • Valid unrestricted Washington State Drivers license and
  • Proof of personal vehicle insurance
